We All Pay Your Benefits

That was a joke. Actually, I read the Guardian because I'm a socialist, hippy, liberal, left-wing, teacher, capitalist, businessman.
So in other words your a scruffy git

Safety net is spot on, a helping hand when your down and out or too ill, the problem is the government have to do more to get the minimum wage increased or something as rents are going up council tax every year etc things need doing both sides but until respect is bought back into society i don't think we will see an improved welfare system tbh we have lost our way as a nation and need a kick up the arse imo

:1: Somethings all wrong all over as you say, not just here thats why when i see these wars with ''Iraq, Afghan,,,,etc'' I don't see it as wars with the people of these countries who have done nothing wrong just like us over here not wanting the war its the corrupt elites forcing us to hate each other but i remain hopeful one day we will realise this and turn on the ba*tads

Wow i sound like a rebelious teen :21: :21:

Was an interesting second part.

The fatty who went cleaning decided she might be able to do maybe 3 hours a few days. Hmmm, well done love.

The uni graduate (media studies, ahem) I wanted to punch when he didn't turn up for the second day but actually, by the end of it, he had started working as a carer, so maybe he has seen the light.

The bloke with the goatee had said he'd not work for less than he can get on benefits (understandable really, and this is where benefits are wrong that some working get less than those doing nowt) got so much pride from working he is looking to take a job which would pay less and work his way up.

This is the thing, people don't quite understand the satisfaction of being self sufficient and not reliant on the state. They need to be made to find that out and if that means enforced work (if there are jobs, then find one, if you can't, we will allocate you one)

But as Nick and Margaret both said (I like them, seem decent good honest people and are good at presenting!) it is no good cutting folks benefits to force them into jobs IF there are no jobs there.

Difficult balancing act all in all.

I guess, out of a population of 65 ish million, 2.5million out of work isn't that bad. I'm sure they could knock off .5million at least if people were made to do something for their money.

the part that made me laugh was the simpleton who made the fear look like einstein, is going to do a degree!! a degree in what? excuses!! pmsl

The problem I find at work is that most of my caseload, espesh the young ones don't really know what work they want to do, which is slightly worrying. Some are scared of going back to work as well. Alot of it is in their heads. Working in Walsall though has been the toughest, most ( not all ) just don't want to work and then moan, lie, and will do anything to get out of it.

We are currently doing exit reviews for people who are coming up to their two years on programme. They are in for a big shock when they go back to job centre.

In Ireland, if someone works for less than 20 hours a week, they can get something called Family Income Supplement which tops up their earnings if their wages are low. Is there something similar in the UK?

Yeah John there is, was called working tax credits it know comes under universal tax credits.

When I was a mature student a few years back (NOT doing media studies) I had a part-time job and it got topped up by Family Income Supplement. And as I think of it, I had to work a minimum (not maximum) of 19 hours. (Senior moment....) It was a big help to us at the time.

It's tax credits in this country BBJ. However if you are able bodied you have to work 30 hours plus to get tax credits. If you are registered disabled it is 16 hours minimum plus.

If you are on the sick there is certain guidelines about paid and voluntary work and it must be under 15 hours. Or if you are on approved work on ESA in WRAG and setting up a bussiness (Working Related Action Group) to see how it goes there is also guidelines for that that you can have your monies still and earn .

Single Mom's or anyone in a family on benefits get tax credits for the children and benefits from the DWP for the adults.

So yes there is alot of perms and variants here depending on your situation

Yes it is being transferred over in stages to universal credit however the guidelines will stay the same. That takes into account what benefits your on as to whether there is a cap or not on how much you get

Didn't go as anti as expected for me.

First half was very anti workers and their beliefs. I thought they would really go to town on the unemployed in the second part but it didn't happen.

Not sure what to think.

The main thing that sticks with me is cleaning woman who was so adamant the unemployed women wouldn't work she pre judged her and thought she was to blame when it was her own employee who made the mistake. Holding people to double standards?

And despite basically doing all that was asked, she wanted more before offering her a job, mainly because she wanted to be around for her kids and wanted more useful hours, and apparently that's wrong even though her kids moaned about her lack of involvement in their life?

The others seemed to come round nicely, appreciate everyone can't do what they can for whatever reason, although the back issues for the one bloke for me got tiresome - a bad back is the only thing you can't prove or disprove health wise - but he was still willing ultimately.

The media student (I took that course at A level, it's a fucking joke!) we spent more time playiong music and videos than anything else....and that was with tutur approval, just goes to what I said in another thread.

University should be for the brightest with a plan and a focus, not for everyone just to piss up the wall taxpayers money because they think a geography degree will help them when they get pregnant or become a mechanic. Or worse still, learn the phrase...do you want fries with that.

Anyone with a degree who thinks that entitles them to not pick up a box or stack shelves should instantly be required to repay the taxpayer for their entire education.

Equally anybody without qualifications who thinks the same is below them, should lose everything and attend a centre once a day for a carton of milk and a loaf of bread.

Then be directed to a dorm so they have a roof.

Too harsh?

Or do I underestimate the life of wannabee archeologists and historians? Hmmmmm

At least they folded that bloody Soap Opera qualification....Riiiiiicccccckkkkkkkkkyyyyyyyy.

We're run so backwards its pretty incredible... We need to reform absolutely everything because the vast majority of this system is setup for the early 1900s...

Schools are factories for workers they train you to do something you dont want to do for most of the day... Only those who want to learn get anything from school IMO...

Universities should be run differently... Each degree should have preferred classes and levels with a system for making exceptions if a student does have a particular class but was unbelievable in another area and wants to do a certain degree...
--------
Enough about that...

I think Ireland is trying to tackle the 'benefits culture'... gona be interesting to see how that works... They're talking about completely cutting people off who will not co=operate...

I forgot to say theres another guy I know who will never work unless this is successful... His father has told him since he is young to never work because he doesnt have to... ITs true people are brought up to live that way its fucking pathetic... All he has to do is jump a few hoops here and there and he keeps his money...

Dont know if it was this thread or another msg board but someone said that if you're getting hassled by the gov to get a job its cause they think they can get you back working... The people on it long term dont get bothered because they are seen as lost causes...

To be fair, they are in debt up to their eyeballs by the time they've finished their educations these days so they do pay towards it.

Was better in my day, the grants were still high then and the student loans they did give made for good beer vouchers! :3:

Yeah CDX the idea of making sure working class kids who were bright got the same university chances was to applauded, but it opened up the route of wasting your time at Uni now for way too many just because it's what you do 'for an adventure' in your youth.

And that goes on to the benefit culture where it's deemed 'entitled'.

Uni's don't care though, the more through the doors the more money they get.

A lot of truth in the long term statement as well, far more effort required compared to somebody just out of work and on the dole.

And I think you prove my point Mr Fear! lol

Only pay back once they are earning a certain level and even then most of them threw their dummies into the subsidised Bacardi Breezers over it.

Worst thing uni's ever did was let fatty fat fats go.

Should be for slim people only surely ?
