The Fulford/Villan57 Random Villa Stuff Thread

Over the 27 years we've been involved in the Premier league that works out an average of just under 6 games a season, that's taking into account our relegation season when we were absolute shite and a few battles with the drop over the years. Does seem a lot when all totalled together, hopefully something we can improve on.
Maybe I should of put this in the Height Debate thread as they do love crunching numbers 😁

outside the top 6 though weve probably played more PL games than any other club

Stats in isolation like that drive me mad, when you put up stats you're trying to say something but the stats don't stand on their own.

That just tells me we've been mediocre in this league for a long time but most clubs can only wish they'd have lost that many home games in the top division. In fact some teams haven't even won as many games as we've lost. Instead, they're at the top of those lists in lower leagues.

for Home games we're 7th on the list at 517 (ahead of the likes of Newcastle by 1, Spam (497), City (480) & Saints (442))

for losses we're top 160
but Spam are next at 158 (so we're marginally less shite than them pro-rata)

(utd, arse, dippers, chelsea are 575 games and 64-79 losses for comparison)
#numberwang

16 seasons I've had this current seat and in all that time it's never been fortress Villa Park. It's always been a case of hoping to win rather than expecting a win even under Martin No'deal

nah thats inaccurate around the MON 666 years

Yep, we’re one of the oldest professional clubs still going in the country and have played at the highest level of the English game for the vast majority of that time.

A stat I will lose no sleep over but will feel like 3 points for a bluenose

Yeah but they've been relegated from the top flight more than any other club. They're just setting themselves up for some shit if they start with that

That's they're specialist subject though. Setting themselves up for a piss taking. From the last 2 games vs them alone they've had some weirdo go to the Villa shop and film himself swearing at a cardboard cut out of Grealish. Then of course there was the twat who ran on and hit Grealish. They have to do stuff like this because they know at the end of it all we win.

I'm starting to think outside the box, we have the Ings and Watkins and the Coutinho and Buendia situations ie can they play together.

How about if we could get to a situation where they are all just great players to bring on to change a game. That is actually where we need to get to in the next 2 seasons or we are going to move forwards.

Coutinho and Watkins are winning the "race" currently but I don't think either is going to shift us from midtable. Unless SG has a master plan, which I really doubt exists. I don't doubt there is a plan that see's us getting top4 at some stage but I feel that it is rather "fluid" especially when players and managers rarely stay 3 years never mind 5

Not sure who triggered me to check some stats as they are not always measuring the right metrics and as I'm doing now used to "prove" a point.

Passing and pass completion, in particular, Marv is around 85% JJ 83% Dougie 82% and you've guessed it SJM only 75% but as I thought the front two of Ings 68% and Ollie 71% is where it breaks down. I think Coutinho and EB were around 78/79
This is also over a 2 or 3 season spell if you check back it's normal for those players.

Obviously, there are lots of variables with these stats, especially passing as there are degrees of difficulty, distance, pressure opposition etc etc.

Haha just thought I wonder what Kane and Son are two of the best strikers in the PL, well Kane is 69% and Son 75 so that blows my theory out of the water and I've just proven absolutely nothing with stats after all.

Perhaps I should start tweeting random stats that people suck up like Danny I'ngs is only 1% behind Harry Kane ...........................in his passing

Stats only work alongside understanding the context and their limitations. Difference with "moneyball" between football and baseball.
