Current Squad: June 2020

We have our first game on Saturday away to Peterborough, two 75-minute halves.

Peterborough are way ahead of us fitness-wise, they have already played four pre-season games (and won all four by 1-0, 4-2, 8-0 and 2-0 today at Mansfield).
Those are quite long halves!

They are, but the format for pre-season games appears to be different to previous years. The majority of games to date have consisted of two completely different teams playing longer halves - 60 minutes each way has been common. This is the first time I have seen 75. I'm not sure playing 75 minutes each way against a squad that has already played four games is a great idea, especially as we only have 18 players at the moment.

appleton already mentioned we had one trialist at the club, i am sure there are plenty more that we could take a look at.
he mentioned 1 signing plus one loan by last weekend (which turned out to be bridcutt + eyoma). then said, he was planning to sign 2 more by the 15th.

players can go off, come back on. we can play some of the juniors. we will be fine for a friendly.

and just to add, we had a squad game at the weekend, so must have managed 22 for that. and that squad game was probably just as tough as Peterborough's wins against kettering or peterborough sports.

The former of the fans in the echo reckons we'll win nothing with kids and certs for relegation and Appleton will clear off when the going gets tough.
Cheerful devil

Right, thanks for the information. I thought the same about tiredness and all, plus the heat (although presumably drinks breaks will be plentiful). 75 minute halves seem a strange thing in the context of implementing tactics, assuming they are used in these games - surely they'll be knackered after an hour? Anyway. Not my decision!

It’s a difficult time for us Imps fans. The squad is coming together nicely but it is a new, young, squad with a bit of experience being thrown in lately. The difficult bit for us is patience because it is a completely unknown squad, in terms of ability, with little or no continuity. I’m sure MA will be excited by the potential he’s got to work with but it will take time for them to gel and strike up partnerships and understandings. One or two more apparently to come yet so more unknowns into the mix (unless it’s JJ 🤞). May be a difficult start to the season but let’s see where we go and encourage the players, especially the young ones, with our support. Whatever happens it will just be great to see our beloved Imps back playing again. UTI.
