What was the last film you watched

Welcome To The Rileys

Very good film I thought, sensitively done!

We had John Carter on the big screen tonight. Seen it before, not brilliant, but if you take it for what it is - a bit of a sc-fi adventure, it isn't too bad. 6.5/10

Batman - Dark Knight
There are artists of film, architects of film, and then there are the jerry builders. The artists are guys like Fellini, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Pasolini etc. Christopher Nolan is in the architect category - beautifully constructed and engineered but essentially a Hollywood item, a commercial product. A Tarkovsky film may make money or it may not, but it was made to shed light on the human condition, not to turn a profit.

I thought I'd say this because I've heard so much hype about the new Dark Knight Rises film, how Nolan is a genius and so on. No he 'ain't. He's undoubtedly very clever and his work is certainly a class above the usual Hollywood blockbuster but his soul has more in common with an accountant than a poet.

Hahaha

That's brilliant.

I love your work, mate. :1:

Go watch Dark Knight Rises, then sit down with Tarkovsky's 'Stalker', or Pasolini's 'Theorem' - within five minutes you will see the difference between what is art and what is commerce, between great and the merely good.

'Ted'
I'm a huge fan of Family Guy and American Dad but I was very disappointed by Seth McFarlane's live-action movie. Basically it is a bog-standard bromance flick with the twist that the hero happens to be a three-foot tall talking teddy bear.

There are some funny moments but once you get used to the idea that the teddy talks, drinks, flirts and does drugs like any regular guy you are just left with the narrative, which is the kind of buddy movie story we've seen a hundred times, complete with sickly sweet ending.

Peter Griffin would not approve.

I was going to make a smart remark about those films being boring like The Luvre but, fuck it, I'll have a go at Stalker if I can download it.

Fair enough?

Absolutely BB, Stalker (1979) is arguably Tarkovsky's best film. There's a good copy on Kickass Torrents.

However, one can't persuade people to like it just because it's art, just as most people still think Picasso is a joke even though he is accepted as one of the greatest painters of all time. Most people don't know what the hell they're talking about :)

Give Stalker a go, it may rock your world or you might give up after ten minutes.

It's in Russian! Are there any 'art' films in English?

lol this is the post of the year, without a doubt. :1:

I always found Picasso very inspirational when I was younger:

You don't have to suffer that much! There should be subtitles with it?

There are subtitles there all right. It's finished downloading so I'll have a go at it tomorrow or over the weekend.

I watched Due Date tonight with Robert Downey Jnr and Zach Galifanachakizishz. It's the kind of stock movie that Hollywood churns out while they are waiting for the new Batman. It's a buddy film/road trip/odd couple thing. If you love Robert Downey Jnr or Zach... you might like it but otherwise, you've seen it before done better.

Earlier this evening we had Wrath Of The Titans on the big screen. Follow up to Clash Of The Titans, again starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes. Not too bad for a follow up. 6.5/10

Film called "Haywire" on the big screen tonight. Action thriller with agents, double agents etc...you get my drift?.. starring Gina Carano, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, and Michael Fassbender. Wasn't bad, but a bit slow at times. 6.5/10

lol haven't seen it yet but a lot of people I know are saying the same thing. I expected as much though, no way could the last one be topped.

Although that said I don't think Nolan topped Tim Burton's films.

Saw a older film (2006) earlier this evening called Last Exit. A Canadian film starring Kathleen Robertson and Andrea Roth. Story of two women struggling with their respective lives, starting early in the morning and build to their paths crossing in tragic circumstances. Bit slow, but not bad. 6/10

It ties the 3 of them together nicely, so as a trilogy it's decent but I prefer Batman and Batman returns and Keatons Batman to these 3, but still enjoyed them.

This one was 45 minutes too long, Catwomen was unnessesary, Batman wasnt actually in it all that much, Banes voice pissed me off and the ending is shite considering we know Nolan wont make any more.

Dark Knight > Dark Knight Rises
