The Science and Technology Thread

I tried the VR version of Fallout 4, and it made me feel sick.

They can be discombobulating alright.

I don't like heights and at the start of the Batman game you're lowered into the Bat Cave from a great height. My legs were shaking and everything, felt like I was going to have a full blown panic attack, I had to take the headset off a few times.

There's another shooter game where you're sitting in a mine car on a track going up and down like a rollercoaster, it's amazing the sensations you get in your stomach as if it were real.

I get that horrible feeling in my stomach playing the 2d version of Assassin's Creed, whenever I jump off anything. I would be terrible if it was in VR.

I know it's not the game thread, but I just got the 10th anniversary Edition of Skyrim. They've added loads of the stuff fans created to it.

Nice one, must get that myself, wish they'd hurry up and release another Elder Scrolls game though!

Oxford's JET lab smashes nuclear fusion energy output record

"The JET experiments put us a step closer to fusion power," said Dr Joe Milnes, the head of operations at the reactor lab. "We've demonstrated that we can create a mini star inside of our machine and hold it there for five seconds and get high performance, which really takes us into a new realm."

Just depends how quickly they can ramp it up now to a far more sustainable level of replication.

Almost priceless and waste free energy (infrastructure aside) and 5 seconds powering 60 odd kettle boils (that's got to be region of 500/1000 homes light powered for a good few hours in terms of an equivalent) - again it's not insignificant.

From my quick ganders ahead of the game, this test doubled the energy from their test back in 93 or 97? So with the rate of scientific growth you'd expect them to double again in possibly half the time, if not more. That's where it really becomes promising.
