The Science and Technology Thread

Saw this last night. I also watched a program on BBC4 about the Hubble. The pictures it sent back were stunning. It also showed the risk the astronauts went to to first launch it and then maintain it. If you can get it on i player its well worth a watch.

Or like that time I tried peyote

Did you feel like this by the end of the night?

Anyone catch the mini Webb doc at 8 tonight - a lot more went into that than I'd realised but those shots are phenomenal.

Was reading yesterday that an 8 year old girl got to speak to one of the astronauts on the ISS as it passed over Kent. Her father is a radio ham. He got the signal, got his daughter out of bed and the contact lasted just a minute. He said he was a bit jealous but his daughter was chuffed.
Just looked to see when its next visible in Tamworth but they are all early morning sightings coming up so we still be in bed.

Hmmmmm.
Ah, ok , so the likes of Megan and Harry, Prince Andrew, all the Hollywood green celebs, the politicians etc are all ok to carry on flying everywhere in their helicopters and private jets, whilst we have to cut back on car travel, no woodburners to make up for the loss of gas and electric, etc etc
You get the picture. No wonder ordinary people are sceptical of these charlatans.

The American space agency's Dart probe has smashed into an asteroid, destroying itself in the process.

It completely destroyed itself? Really? Fuck me, I never saw that coming. Does that mean I shouldn't run in front of a bus and expect to stop it?

The Darwin Award for potentially the worst opening press paragraph of the year goes to...

I watched it live on CNN. there was a camera mounted on the front of the craft.
As it got closer and closer then the picture went blank. I thought they had lost the pictures before realising it had crashed into it.....:slap:...:clown:...
