The Car Thread

My temporary company car is a Toyota Corolla hybrid.

I don't drive slowly and it's still averaging over 60 mpg.

Interesting what you say JF about the new 3 series as I have one on order.

cant see the point in deveopling these things because hybrids and plug in hybrids are on the governments banned list along side diesel and petrol now.

Yeah, my last of the 'old' lot was a 335. It was insane. Unless I ever win a fortune, it will no doubt be the most fun car I'll have. You accelerated and it properly pushed you back into your seat.

But this, inside and out, is a real step up as obviously, it is all the latest technology. Not so dull inside either, that is where the 'old' one was lacking, albeit the last of the updates made them a bit better.

Look forward to hearing your opinion.

Which one you going for?

No, My parents had a mini in 1963 and 3 kids.
Seriously my daughter has a Ford S max and that has 7 seats, she bought it because it is one of the few cars that has 3 Isofix points in the back, So they have 3 child seats fixed in and two extra seats in the boot that she has never seen and I doubt ever will
When we first got married over forty years ago I got rid of my old Escort Mexico and bought a bog standard 850 mini.
All these years on, after Mercs, Audis Beamers Gtis Gtds etc, it is still up there with one of the best cars I ever owned.

Yep, my Dad's was an 850 with a cooper s gearbox don't ask why. I've had 4 minis, proper minis not these BMW tarts cars.
A bright Orange 1233 cc full race engined clubman being probably pound for pound the faster thing I've driven, I was 18 at the time. Built it myself 1100 bored out , and fitted with Imp flattop pistons etc The speedo went up like a rev counter. Obviously modern cars would leave it standing but not then. The torque steer was unbelievable

We've gone for a 320i sport and added a few extras. It's really for my wife as most of the time I'm driving my company car with work. I really wanted the 340i but just couldn't justify it as we are in the process of buying a new house.

the m series? That's what I have. (Not the M3...!)

Yes, the higher engine, as I had last time (335 was the top one at the time) the road tax was ridiculous and insurance was pretty high.

whichever one that is just one better than yours mate. :Fingers:

320i M series... I've sort of semi retired, I think... so decided the petrol, road tax and insurance for the 335 was a bit ott.

We have the X1 25D which is quite powerful but fuel consumption definitely isn't diesel like. Almost switched brands but I've never had a bad BMW out of the 11 I've had.

Same, would quite like to trade 'down' next time but they are so great to drive, I might struggle (well, 'struggle')... think this is my 7th... or 6th... er..

The 3 series has always been my favourite as I've had the 1,3,5 and X1 but the X1 has run it close. The worst one was the 5 series, just so uncomfortable compared with the others.

All 3's for me apart from one 4 series. It was nice enough, but wasn't as good and also, developed a few rattles that they couldn't eliminate and I can't stand any tapping and rattling, as my head with all my ops etc is noisy enough. So they gave me a great deal on the 335. But it did cost me a lot really choosing that 4 series and having to then get shot.

Yes I've forgotten about the 4 series. I must have had a good one as nothing went wrong with it. Have you seen the new 4 series?

Was a nice driving position and it did look very nice. Just the rattles, which is unusual for BMW !

Not seen it, no.

Like the look of the new electric Porsche though, that could pursuade me to change brands, albeit, my bank account would persuade me otherwise!
