Next 4 League Games

I think it is two games for a repeat offence yep. I actually feel a bit sorry for Husband, he's been hung out to try by Critchley really instead of being given a chance in his own specialist position. Even though we know he has this side to his game, he's not getting repeat red cards in successive home games if he's playing at left back. The opposition would still be targeting the high line with balls over the top in the gaps for runners, but he wouldn't be put in as many last man scenarios. And is more of a defender than Mitchell who is a left winger.

It looks like the only reason Husband hasn't had the same straight out the door treatment as some of the other players inherited is because Critchley wanted to use his left foot in the middle for balance to try to make this system work. Now they've brought forward the signing of this left footed centre half that Garrity has noticed playing long balls from left to right in Norway he's just going to be a sacrificial lamb who they'll just throw away in January when the next scattergun starts. Unless they've got Gretarsson in and suddenly realised he's a mile off what they expected.

I prefer the 3-4-2-1 set up above as well. Works for me but this robotic flat 4-1-2-3 is just going to be drilled into the players until they find a way to make it work I think. One single idea inherited from Liverpool and nothing else. I'm guessing it's fingers crossed that some of the players who've been out injured, or just signed and not seen yet, are the ones who are going to help it click into place through better individual quality, but we'll see. Even a more fluid 4-3-3 would work for me with two sitting in midfield and one supporting the attack who move about and work closely with each other. Not arsed about keep ball and passing stats, just focus on winning the game.

Expecting MK to line up with wing backs tomorrow but maybe stronger down the left. They like to dominate possession as well so will be interesting to see who's done the best homework for it.

Looking at the players we have available i would favour a tactical set up with deep lying midfielders screening the defence launching balls over the top to exploit the pace of the likes of CJ.

Yep. We're stuck with it but I don't like this one man in front of defence, two in behind attack zonal set up.

It looked even more overthinking it last Saturday when we had inverted attacking midfielders sat behind an inverted wide men in a front three when Ward was told to stay on the left, Robson on the right.

Are they trying to coach themselves into oblivion?!

There's a reason a 4-4-2 has been the most used formation in football for many, many decades...

Keep It Simple Stupid

There is also a reason why it is the most unused formation in recent time.

One question I will throw out there though, did we let to much experience leave in Spearing, Feeney and Fonz? Not only are they experienced but they’ve been here a while now and sometimes you need players who’ve been here a while.

I’m not saying they’d be starters but would one or two of them be useful in the current squad off the field as much as on it.

that's how naive of our manager/coach whatever you call him is You can't say Mitchell is a better left back than either Husband or Macdonlad or williams better than spearing, and gabriel, lubala better than what we had I think not, he's completely ruined a capable mid table side into relegation fodder

Macdonald not getting into the Tranmere side most games (played just two of their league games).

Bit of a cop out on Spearing then by the club. It was clear he wanted two years somewhere so why even waste your time full stop.

It would have made more sense if it was a stipulation of his old contract that they had to.

PR move.

Bit like Lincoln. They didn't offer new deals to two fan favourites in Eardley and Bostwick. Claimed they weren't in position to sign anyone because of Covid. Reality was Appleton didn't want them, but easier for club to spin a story to avoid criticism.

We knew Spearing wanted two years. We were never going to offer that, so offered a token year rather than release him outright.

Lincoln must be shit if Eardley is a fan favourite 🤣

I know it goes on in the game, Oyston used to specialise in it, but I'd hoped we'd moved on from that here.

Be decisive, or you end up with your goalkeeper who's already got enough on his plate as captain ;-)

He's a disaster.
