How old are you and how long have you been VTID...like to understand the age group on here

I'm a few weeks older than Erod which must make me the Godfather of Vital Villa.
My first game was in November 1963 v Bolton - 3-0 to Villa.
My parents lived in Brum from the mid 1950s to 1990. I first started supporting the Villa after my Dad started sending me the SPORTS ARGUS every Saturday night.

Must be a generation thing, my grandad used to save the Argus for me every week without fail, another paper (which I seem to remember being pink and the local non league paper. Stank of dog piss and stale bogeys, used to read it on the bus to school had a stench like a homeless man ?

The Semi Final of the league cup reply at Highbury when Sir Brian got the hat trick I had to bunk off school and for the replays of the final at Hillsborough and old Trafford. I got separated from my mates and ended up in the QPR end. Got out thankfully and was escorted round the pitch to the villa end. The actual final at Wembley was bloody awful.

Yep Trecker first two games were shite as far as I was concerned both cagey affairs but by god did Old Trafford make up for it. Sir Brian remains my favourite Villa player of all and I have seen a few from McParland,Hitchens etc. But along with Nichols boomer he was magical that night.

Bit ahead of you BBJ.:wahey: Can't remember actual first game but was 61/62 season. First game I do remember vividly (this is why I live in hope!) was v Leicester April 1962 which we won 8-3. Bobby Thompson got 3 and The Doog got 2. Went again a few days later on my birthday to see us beat N Forest, I think it was 5-1. Became a regular the next season and that was the year we lost 10 or 11 games on the trot. But some great players - never forget Jimmy McEwan steaming down the wing with his bandy legs and Harry Burrows terrifying goalies when he shot - could take their heads off.

But are you older than me in years? Like Erod, I'm an early "baby boomer", a January 1946 model!

Is under 35 or 35 and under? This is important to me.

One way or another, I'm afraid there is no avoiding the fact that you have reached one of life's crossroads my friend:nopity:.

If it's any consolation, what's in your heart and mind are far more important. I would suspect like me, most of us look at our age and think how the fuck did I get here so quickly:shake::eek!::rofl:

47 - just ( a week ago).

First match was 30th August 1980 aged 8 vs Coventry City at home. Remember Gary Gillespie thumping the cross bar with what seemed like a 400yd screamer!
That was one of the years they wore that beautiful brown away kit

First few years I sat by the tunnel always wanting to get hold of Peter Withes sweatbands but never being assertive enough to push my way to the front.

Those days there was always a smell of cigars (never cigarettes) round by where I sat - still to this day, whenever I smell cigars I always think of my early years down the Villa.

Graduated to the Holte and used to catch the train in from Chester Rd Erdington with my best mate 'Quinny'and get to the ground early, get a position about half way up on the left as you look at it and get somewhere just behind one of the barriers so we could lean against them.

Distinctly remember the UEFA Super Cup night in January 83 vs Barcelona.

Happy days

46. Was bought up a nose. My old man was a big blues fan and used to take me to the pen.
Been a villa fan since 82,since my 1st day at high school when I met my new mates. Who were mainly villa fans. That's when I started to get into football.

Recently turned 29. My late grandad got me hooked on the Villa when I was a little'un and never looked back. First game was a very wet FA Cup 3rd round tie at Portsmouth in January 1998 and never got treated to a visit to Villa Park until May 2007 where we destroyed Sheffield United and the European Cup winners did their 25 year anniversary. Never had means to commit to being a STH, but follow avidly (much to my girlfriend's distain at times).

Well, Jase, now that you mention it. I did just spend 20 minutes wondering why an article had got such few views on Sunday but then I realised I hadn't published it.

I think I'm beyond hope!

Shouldn't joke about it really..dads got it...knows us all but can't remember after 15 mins...does odd things...shit thing to have when you been a rock all ya life...fighter etc...in life..been thr done it and that takes hold of you..but he's ok at mo but will go that way..75th surprise birthday for him friday...he'll enjoy it but wont remember nothing next day...horrid thing to have..but..:off::ooops::bull::cheers: Holtender...home and away..until later...he's been thr for Villa through the lot...?

Not a nice thing mate, not having been through it just try and keep your humour and take the memories where you can knowing that at least in the moment you're doing the best by him.

All too prevalent these days sadly.

I'm 31, American, with no ties to Brum or the club... I've been a die-hard Villa supporter for over 12 years now.

In Summer of 2006, I moved into a new apartment in preparation for Uni, and it had cable with the Fox Soccer Channel, which played Sky Sports News every night and showed nothing but non-stop replays of the Premiership all day. It was right on the back of the World Cup, which was my first introduction to the sport, and it really caught my attention. That summer, I worked, partied, and watched footy replays all day. I saw the whole Lerner takeover unfold on SSN every night. When the season started, I caught what games where on FSC and saw a bit of the unbeaten MON run, and I took to the club. After a bit of searching, I found a forum of football game recorders. All the Sky clubs were readily available, with the other Premier League clubs being hit and miss, but I really took a liking to the Villa for some reason. It was just love at first sight for some reason.

During my time supporting Villa in the USA, I've yet to meet another homegrown American supporter like me. Americans pretty much exclusively support the Sky clubs and Fulham (Because of all the Internationals they had playing for them over the years like McBride, Dempsey, Bocanegra, Ream, etc.). I've met a few expat Villa supporting Englishmen at footy bars in NYC and San Fran, but never another yank. I've also had to endure an incredible amount of abuse over the years from elitist plastic American fans who have looked down on me for supporting a "small" club like Villa. Man United fans are the worst, which is probably why I hate that club even more than I hate the Blose.

Now that I'm all grown up and have some disposable income, I'm probably going to make the journey out to Villa Park for the first time next season.

Great story KMitch You can always remind Utd fans that Villa were one of the original 12 founder members of the first football league and our own William Macgregor. Started the whole thing.
