EU strategy to destroy the Chequers ‘agreement’...

He thinks British shoppers will buy expensive British farm produce above cheap foreign imports. I'd suggest only a small minority would.

They received some EU subsidies but considering the only money the EU possesses is contributed by member states, the UK government was one of only 4 nations contributing a huge portion of that. The deadbeat countries contributed sod all.
The whole idea is to generate prosperity across the EU a true socialist paradigm that should be right up your street; instead you put your nationalist [not patriotic] hat on with Ignoramus writ large across the front and kick your socialist principles down the road.
The irony seems to be that even if the government wishes to match the subsidies that have been lost, they may not be able to as the EU may see it as State aid which is causing them to get their "Level playing field" knickers in a twist.
I think you'll find that the trumpeting of divergence will be far less when negotiations start because it will largely be a toss up between what we know and unknowns.

How pissed off will all of the doomsayers be when everything turns out fine and the U.K. flourishes outside the EU ?
Just asking!
I'm not sure where these markets and opportunities are seeing as we're aleady doing business with the vast majority of nations via the EU but I'll try.

Argentina and Brazil are two nations where we could expand our trade. We sell them technology and high end products and more but what do we buy from them to balance the books. Oooooooh project fear.

Their footballers? :-)

How is this thread still going?

I’ve not bothered to read any of the recent posts because I thought that Brexit was done and dusted.

Brief resumé: Brexit sorted, oven ready deal on the point of being accepted in full by supplicant EU when things turned nasty. Virus thing created by Chinese, possibly Iranian, rotters put a spanner in the works. Gills surge to the playoffs scuppered by total football shutdown followed by martial rule. Latest rumours suggest PM & partner deported to Mustique and country in grip of deep state civil servant cabal headed by Sir Philip Rutnam. He's a Derby fan

The whole pricess has been a doddle. I don't know what all the fuss was about. The likes of Truss, Patel, Raab etc will have it sorted to our full advantage in no time. The EU are already begging for mercy.

"The Europeans came prepared to play three-dimensional chess, but the British seem to have shown up dressed to play rugby instead."

"The previous administration, having stressed since the 2016 Brexit referendum that the U.K. wanted to maintain close security, foreign policy and defense ties, the official document setting out Britain’s approach to future relations does not even mention diplomatic or military cooperation — only law enforcement and justice. U.K. officials now say they don’t want any institutional connection to EU foreign or defense policy, just ad hoc collaboration on missions deemed to serve British interests."

Different times, different ball game.

Looks like brain v brawn then?

I see the deal the EU had with Turkey is going well...

Yep , a spearhead/vanguard of hundreds of thousands waiting across the border , with three million behind them.
All in a rush to leave a peaceful Islamic republic , to travel to Europe.

I am sure you know better but I think you will find that socialist principles are built on fair and equal division of wealth and giving as much as you take, providing you work hard and obey the law.

Personally, I do not include the feckless fathers that intentionally breed a dozen times and never get a job or contribute to society. They need an incentive to change that behaviour.

A bit of a metaphor for the EU budget contributions. There comes a time when the sponging must stop and everyone pays their share. All those years of enjoying nothing but that marvelous EU prosperity must mean that every country has the capacity to do so.

That old nutter O’Leary is at it again with his off the wall predictions.
Considering he’s called everything 100%wrong so far, you think his management team would keep an eye on him wouldn’t you?

He will literally do or say anything to get Ryanair in the press.
