"Brand Image" ! The tone coming from the "whistle blower" (not the referee btw ) sounds highly credible and plausible. There are too many men and women in today`s higher echelons of policing that are frightened of their own shadow, care little about the people they are supposed to serve and too much about their own, individual "Brand Image" as well as "corporate correctness". The public always gets the police force/service it deserves - which, currently is quite worrying !
To be fair they are just on trend with all the other idiots in charge of almost everything. What is quite strange is that while all these highly paid individuals labour almost exclusively to protect the image of their organisations; those organisations have never been held in lower regard.
In the case of police, I blame Line of Duty
In the case of police, I blame Line of Duty
We have gone from the 60s/70s problem of wide scale corruption and racism where nobody seemed to worry about the image - to a far better police force that only worries about its image.
Reported in the media, a day or so back, that any person convicted of an offence, pertaining to the tweets aimed at the English trio, will be prevented from attending games - ie have a lifetime football banning order. What a massive assumption that is ! Wouldn`t be a surprise, to us that actively follow football, if very few, none even, of offenders actually regularly attend games. It`s also assumed that the twitter barrage was from English (or UK) based people - as the ongoing police enquiry moves forward i`d like to see stats relating to places (countries) of origin for the offensive tweets. Wouldn`t be surprised to learn that eastern Europe accounts for a substantial percentage. It`s far too easy for idiots with keyboards or phones to anonymously post offensive rubbish.

Update from the National Police Chiefs Council 5th August 2021:
207 crimes identified - of which:
34 are UK based accounts identified
123 are based outside the UK
Another 50 have yet to be resolved (police still awaiting data from social media companies - which should identify where the accounts are based).
In relation to the 34 identified UK accounts police have made eleven arrests - mainly in the South of England.
Your average idiotic football racist troll doesn't have the mental capacity to use a VPN or Proxy Server.VPNs, bots and trolls...

Eleven arrests - I wonder what the cost-per-arrest is?
It must be a very difficult situation for law enforcement, having to decide where to allocate finite resources
