Weekly THFC Football Operation Meeting Minutes

Date: Friday, 24th September 2021 10am

Attendees:
Daniel Levy, Fabio Patricio, Nuno Espirito-Santo, Ryan Mason, Steve Hitchen, Ledley King

Meeting commenced 10am

Minutes of the meeting:

First Team Matches
Nuno mentioned that it has been a difficult week for himself and his squad. The changing room had reacted badly to the Chelsea home 3-0 defeat. The team had played very well in the first half, especially in the first 30 minutes when Dele, Tanguy, Gio and Son were on fire together. They were very unlucky not to be a goal up in that period. However, after the break it was a dismal performance from a lot of the players. Nuno took Tanguy off after the hour after he had been spotted taking advice from Kane on the pitch and then walking around doing nothing.

The mood was lifted on Wednesday as the team progressed to the next round of the League Cup by beating Wolves on penalties at Molineux. The team were wearing the new mauve strip, which can now be purchased as pyjamas from the official website. Gollini was our goalkeeping hero after Neves, Dendonkey and Coady all missed their spot kicks. Reggie came off the bench in the 97th minute to slot his penalty whilst Gil was cool as a cucumber for his. This is now the second time Nuno has got one over his old club this season. Spurs now play on a windy, rainy night in Burnley on 26th October. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

As for the coming weekend, Nuno said he was looking forward to his first North London Derby at the Ignorants Stadium. He was confident that the guys would repeat the first half Chelsea performance but keep it going for 90 mins on Sunday. He mentioned that Dier had been working on his left footed raking balls as our new surprise element in the side. Fabio asked how many of the new signings would be starting their first NLD. Awkward silence as Nuno confirmed none.

New Harry Kane Transfer Offer
Fabio also said that he had a call from the Scunthorpe chairman asking about the availability of Harry Kane in January. Apparently, they had tried to land their first choices in the summer but had overlooked Harry. They hadn’t realised he was League 2 standard nowadays and thinks he would fit in well at Glanford Park. Daniel had politely declined the request with the offer only being £130k. He is holding out for £150k.

World Cup Qualifiers
The mood in the room dropped as the topic turned to the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers in South America. Daniel expected this one to turn ugly with FIFA who had now given Argentina and Brazil 5 days between their 2nd and 3rd fixtures. He said he would try to talk to Sepp Blatter directly.

Nuno had also overheard a conversation on the training pitch about how much they are all looking forward to staying at Corluka’s pad in Croatia again. There has been a lot of “what goes on tour, stays on tour” comments by the South American players in the last couple of weeks. Apparently it wasn’t only COVID tests that were taken when the boys left.

Attendees:
Daniel Levy, Fabio Patricio, Nuno Espirito-Santo, Ryan Mason, Steve Hitchen, Ledley King

As everyone entered the meeting room, Daniel was heard wrapping up a conversation on his phone. All we heard was “Good to chat mate, give my love to Sandra. Remember what I said, keep your phone on next week and if you want to catch up for a face-to-face coffee at any point then let me know.”

Meeting commenced 10:05am

Minutes of the meeting:

First Team Matches
As always, the meeting started by discussing the 1st team fixtures.

Nuno said that he was learning more and more about his squad as the season progressed and that the NLD 3-1 loss had been a low point in the season. It hadn’t occurred to him that Dele and Tanguy couldn’t play as wingers, whilst he didn’t realise that Son and Moura were incapable of dropping into the central midfield and supporting Pierre. He was also learning that Harry isn’t a big-game player. He did acknowledge that he should have perhaps realised after Croatia, Liverpool, Holland, City, Italy and even last week, Chelsea.

Nuno did mention that he had done slightly better than Rehanne Skinner after her women’s team lost 5-1 in their own NLD and are out of the FA Cup. Ledley did mention that at least the women went 1-0 up in their game.

Onto the Europa Conference League, Nuno mentioned that NS Mura were a top quality team who are sitting 5th in the Slovenian League. That is a higher position than us. The 5-1 win will be remembered for Harry’s 20-minute hat-trick after the team had lost their way in the middle third of the game. After the game Harry said in his live TV interview that “we have to stick together and work hard”. Nuno said that a few of the boys watching the interview on the TV in the changing room laughed and have now coined the phrase. They just pinch their noses with their finger and thumb and say the words “we have to stick together and work hard”. Nuno is worried that, as boys often do, they might take it too far and do it on the pitch to Harry.

Looking forward to the coming weekend, Nuno said that he expects to beat Villa. He has a strong squad available and will be reverting to a 4-2-3-1 formation. Ryan asked Nuno whether Dele will play in behind Kane or whether it’s Gio after his fantastic performance in midweek. Fabio interrupted and said that him and Daniel had recommended that Tanguy plays there in this one.

International Call Ups
There is a lot of disappointment from the South American players that they won’t be going home via Corluka’s oceanside pad in Croatia anymore. The UK government have said they can come back to the UK directly and quarantine for 5 days. That being said, FIFA have given the Brazil players 5 clear days between the Colombia and Uruguay games. Emerson has invited Davinson to spend their rest day together on Copacabana beach and hotel with a “few close friends”.

New Mentor Scheme
Nuno is looking forward to promote some of the senior academy players to train with the first teamers who are not on international duty. He has asked each first teamer to mentor each player for a week. Lucas will be taking Santiago to jump out on some unsuspecting families as they have their stadium tour whilst the marketing team is filming. After his recent multi-million pound investment into TiNDLE, a vegan chicken company, Dele will take Markanday to meet his business partners. He’ll them treat Dilan to a KFC on the way home. As for Tanguy, he’s going to ask Lavinier to babysit his littlun whilst him and the missus go out for dinner.

Attendees:
Daniel Levy, Nuno Espirito-Santo, Ryan Mason, Steve Hitchen, Ledley King
Away: Fabio Paratici

As everyone entered the meeting room, Daniel mentioned that Fabio would not be attending today’s meeting. He had decided to take a short trip to Luxembourg to watch them play against Serbia. Nuno said that he assumed that he had gone to watch Milinkovic-Savic and Vlahovic. Daniel said that he wasn’t sure, but they had a fantastic centre half called Miloš Veljković that he had previously negotiated a buy-back clause when he sold him to Werder Brehmen in 2016 for £300k.

Meeting commenced 10:10am

Minutes of the meeting:

First Team Matches
Nuno said that he was very pleased with the 2-1 win over Villa in the league. He switched the formation to 4-2-3-1 and built it in such a way that Harry and Tanguy can both play in the middle of the 3 reducing the chances of both going missing at the same time. Hojbjerg played both the number 8 and number 9 positions and scored a great goal. In the middle of the second half, Spurs were so dominant that they decided to gift Ollie Watkins a goal so he got the feeling of scoring a goal in our new stadium before next season. Of course, we were just teasing them as we went straight down the other end and got our lead back.

After referee Chris Kavanagh decided to make up 5 mins injury time, Bryan and Gio decided to play keep-ball by the corner flag until the final whistle. Dean Smith will need to call Klopp and learn more about his gegenpressing strategy as it clearly isn’t working. Despite his new Grealish haircut, Matty Cash has also been identified as bang average. Spurs are interested.

Nuno mentioned that he is looking forward to working with the players remaining at the club during the break. He intends to implement some tough love. He is going to get Moura to wear a neck brace, so he plays with his head up for a week. Dele has been told that he has to do 10 press-ups every time he misses a simple pass. There will be 10 burpees for Winksy every time he passes sideways or backwards whilst Dier will train in a strait jacket so he can’t just aimlessly point. As for Tanguy, he will train only in a pair of Speedo’s all week so his body adjusts for the predicted weather conditions at St James Park and Turf Moor in October.

International Break
A lot of the players head into the weekend ready to represent their countries. Kane is not sure whether he’ll be watching the Andorra game from the centre forward position or from the bench. The England players had their final training session at the Estadi Nacional Stadium. Apparently, Phil Foden lit up the stadium in the final session. The former Spur and Southgate’s adopted son, Kieran Trippier, will wear the armband whilst future Newcastle player, Jude Bellingham, will watch it from Dortmund as Gareth has given him a week to grow a couple of inches.

All eyes will be on Scarlett, John and Devine as they represent the U19 England groups over the weekend. First time Spurs have had 3 England players in the same squad for a couple of years.

Finally, a massive week for Hugo and Bryan. Beaten twice at his near post during the week, Hugo still pulled off a couple of world class saves to get France into the Nations League final against Bryan Gil’s Spain. The bad news is that Anthony Taylor is the appointed referee, so expect something controversial to happen.

Roberto Mancini was apparently in shock as the referee dared to send off Bonucci for 2 clear yellow card offences in the first half of their game. He thought him and Chiellini were exempt and could do what they wanted.

Any Other Business

Newcastle Takeover
Daniel said that he had been talking with the Prince, Mohammed bin Salman for a couple of years. He mentioned that him and Mo are now good friends. In fact, Mo wanted to buy Spurs and get some business presence in London. However, Daniel thought that Spurs had way more chance of winning trophies under his leadership and politely declined the offer of £3 billion

Daniel Levy, Fabio Paratici ,Nuno Espirito-Santo, Ryan Mason, Steve Hitchen, Ledley King

As everyone entered the meeting room, Fabio was on the phone to Andrea Agnelli, the Juventus chairman. With the conversation in Italian, nobody could really understand what was being said. After the call, Daniel asked Fabio whether everything was OK. Fabio mentioned that Andrea was asking for some tips how they beat Mourinho’s Roma at the weekend. Fabio told him to tell Bonucci and Chielini to leave Tammy Abraham unmarked as he can’t hit a barn door.

Meeting commenced 10:10am

Minutes of the meeting:

First Team Matches
With the international break upon us, there were no games to report. Nuno had been taking training with the remainder of the first teamers not on international duty. With no U23 fixtures either, a few of the younger group joined the first team.

On Sunday, Lucas Moura took a few of the players down to Brighton to watch the ladies play. Unfortunately, they missed the first hour of the 2-1 loss because when they arrived at the AMEX Stadium, nobody was there. When Lucas checked on his smartphone, they realised that the game was at the Broadfield Stadium in Crawley. At least it was on the way home.

Looking ahead to the trip to Newcastle, Nuno expressed concerns that the club could be without 2 key players as they had tested positive for COVID using the Lateral Flow Test kits that Daniel had bought on Alibaba. Ryan explained to Daniel that whilst these test kits were cheap from Asia, you can get free ones from the NHS. Ledley joked that he’s seen many false positives at Spurs during his career and he expects the PCR tests to come back negative.

International Break
The team acknowledged Hugo’s Nations League winning medal, although admitted it was shrouded with controversy. English referee Anthony Taylor had forgotten that it was a UEFA game and that he was supposed to be fair and follow the rules. There was nothing Mike Riley could do to protect him after the entire Spanish press lambasted him for his shocking performance. He did receive a bottle of expensive Chardonnay from Kyllian Mbappe though.

As for our returning players, there was mostly a clean bill of health. The South Americans flew straight into Newcastle and were self-isolating at Mike Ashley’s empty apartment in the city centre. He had done this as a favour to Daniel, who had been mentoring him for the last ten years. Daniel said there was a skill to buying low and selling high. Fabio mentioned that might not be the case with a couple of the players bought before he joined the club.

Any Other Business

NFL Game at the Stadium
Daniel said everyone was looking forward to hosting the Jaguars and Dolphins for the big game on Sunday. The club were expecting a full-house and had added buffalo wings, popcorn and pretzels to the food stands. They had added a large amount of XXL Spurs shirts on the club shop for the arrival of the NFL fans.
