Weekly THFC Football Operation Meeting Minutes

I keep thinking that every week you can’t top what you posted last week , but you do .
It is a bit like a John Sullivan script when he was doing Fools and Horses .
I suppose the club are making it easy for you !!!!
but that is their fault , you are exploiting the situations brilliantly.
Thanks mutters , brilliant job . I look forward to it every week .
It does deserve a wider audience though .

Date: Friday, 12th November 2021 10am

Attendees:
Daniel Levy, Fabio Paratici ,Antonio Conte, Ryan Mason, Steve Hitchen, Ledley King

Antonio was a couple of minutes late. He was still in his tracksuit where he had been putting the non-international players through their paces on the training ground. He said that today’s surprise was bringing in a load of combat boots, fatigues, heavy back packs, and assault rifles. It was a very tough training session but some of them were finally learning how to shoot straight.

First Team Matches

Everton Away
Antonio said he was learning a lot about his new squad. Whilst he was pleased with the clean sheet at Goodison, he was less than pleased with the quality of our attacking play. We had 8 shots all game and none on target. Antonio mentioned that he might move away from the 6-1-3 in the Leeds game and move Hojbjerg back into the midfield.

Chris Kavanagh was Spurs MoM after overturning his own penalty decision against us, with Hugo getting a fingertip to the ball. In the post-match drinks, Ledley had a chat with Chris and thanked him for his excellent refereeing performance. After his 6th pint, Chris assured Ledley that all the other referees hate Moss, Dean and Taylor as well.

International Update
The third and final international fixture window is now upon us. Several players including Lloris, Kane, Hojbjerg, Davies and Rodon play in the final round of World Cup qualifiers in Europe. The usual crew of Sanchez, Romero, Gio and Emerson head to South America. Sonny heads to South Korea where the commentators will need to deal with 3 Kims, 2 Lees and 2 Hwangs in the same line-up. 18-year-old Maksim Paskotsi is expected to get his 10th cap against Belgium, tasked with the job of keeping Eden Hazard quiet. At this rate, Maksim may get to 50 international caps before he gets a place on the bench for the first team.

Antonio mentioned that he had put a phone call into every one of the international managers and asked them to make sure that our players stay back for extra fitness training each day. To start with, Gareth Southgate refused as he would need to get Trevor Brooking and the FA’s permission. However, Antonio said that when Harry gets tired then he is more likely to stay up front and score goals. It’s a tactic he had used with Lukaku at Inter. Gareth finally agreed as the FA had been trying for ages to get Harry to follow instructions. Apparently, his captain always just smiles at Gareth and then does his own thing.

For the rest of the squad, Antonio said they were having a mini pre-season training camp. He said that they would be out for the long runs in the afternoons as there would be no milk floats or Royal Mail van drivers to bribe.

Transfer Update
Fabio said that he is busy building a list of transfer targets for January. Daniel interrupted and said that he had received a call from Jonathan Barnett, just to let him know that his client was open to a third stint at the club. He would be available is Spurs would pay £350k a week, with Real Madrid covering the rest. Fabio asked Daniel why he didn’t just take Jonathan’s number and let him deal with the call. Awkward silence.

Any Other Business

Club Nutrition
Antonio said he had asked every single player to keep a food diary when they are at home with the families. He had looked at the CCTV footage of the front gate at The Lodge and there were frequent Deliveroo or Uber Eats drivers coming in and out of the training ground. These would normally be close to midnight.

One evening, he had intercepted one of the deliveries and found 12 Big Macs, 15 Quarter Pounders and a mountain of French Fries. Worse still, within the order there were 100 sachets of tomato ketchup.

The next day, Ryan secretly missed training and searched every player’s room. He managed to confiscate all the ketchup on site. The biggest surprise though was finding Pep Guardiola’s daughter, Maria, in Dele’s room. Ryan was a little coy on sharing further details but he did manage to get her to leave an hour or so later.

Meeting concluded 11:00am
 
Ha ha ha ha ha - I have a hangover from hell after a 4 day stag weekend (started Thursday night), and my head is still banging, but Muttley you did it again, I'm grinning and smiling like a kid lol!

Well done, great stuff.

Daniel was 5 mins late arriving due to not being able to get into The Lodge. Apparently, when he lowered his drivers side window, the new security guard still couldn't see him even though he was sitting up.

First Team Matches
There had been no first team matches, but the Spurs women had managed to get a draw in their own North London Derby, even though they conceded a late equaliser. That was a slight relief for Antonio who had joked with Rehanne that the girls could have exclusive access to the Lodge for a couple of days on the international break if they won. He had also reluctantly agreed to the same proposal if they beat Hammers in their next game as he hates both London clubs with a passion.

Problem is, he has just neglected to tell his 1st team players that they would have to give up their rooms.

Antonio also said that, after winning the PL2 Player of the Month award, he had rewarded Dilan Markanday with a chance to train with the first team. Unfortunately for Dilan, he ended up doing boot camp with the rest of the non-international players. However, Ledley did make up for it by taking Dilan out for a couple of cocktails at the Punk club in Soho. Ledley did originally get barred from there when Harry Redknapp was in charge, but he’s now allowed back in.

Antonio is looking forward to Leeds playing Spurs this weekend. He is disappointed to be missing Romero and awaiting more news on his injury. Japhet will deputise for the Argentinian. Gio is also a slight doubt. Spurs also welcome back Gil and Sessegnon who will both be on the bench. Ryan (Mason) asked whether Tanguy would feature. Antonio said that he would be on the bench but needs a couple more weeks of training with a bunjee cord until he automatically returns to his centre mid position.

International Update
Kane arrived back to Spurs with back-to-back hatricks against the 2 Sunday pub sides that England had played over the international weekend. He is now level with former Spur, Gary Lineker, and only 5 goals from Wayne Rooney’s record of 53 goals. Ronaldo is said not to be worried about Kane catching his world record of 115 goals though.

For the non-internationals, Antonio had left them with new fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone for most of the 2 weeks. Apparently, the busiest person at the club had been Kayleigh Wanless, the massage therapist after the players were begging her to work late every day and sort out the aches and pains. All the players were happy with the ending of the boot camp as Antonio gave them the Friday afternoon off.

According to Fabio, Man Utd had been on the phone and want to swap Harry Maguire plus £25m cash for Eric Dier in January. Former Scotland captain, Darren Fletcher, had heard that Spurs were looking for a long-term replacement for Vertonghen, a player who could bring the ball out of defence and has a great range of passing. Fabio thanked Darren for the thought but said that him and Antonio are looking for a left footed centre half with a football brain, pace, reading of the game and positional sense. Fabio told Darren that his fellow Scot, Grant Hanley, would look great in a Man Utd shirt.

Any Other Business

Antonio said the club had made great progress with the players’ nutrition in the last couple of weeks. The leadership team had a laugh about Gerrard banning ketchup from the Villa camp and copying Antonio. Villa are expected to move to a 3-4-3 formation in due course.

Daniel has been on , asking Patrici to see if he can get an understudy for whenever you are unavailable, …. but he replied that there is no- one out there willing to sit on their sofa every week , never getting a chance to sharpen their pencil .

He said the parallel with Kane was frightening.
 
Weekly THFC Football Operation Meeting Minutes

Antonio and Ryan were late arriving for the meeting after Ryan’s baggage had gone missing on their way back from Slovenia. Both had come straight from the airport, with Ryan’s hair looking more like Ken Dodd’s rather than his normal self. Ryan updated everyone that Davinson had apparently gone right not left when getting on the plane, allowing Lucas to jump inside him and nick his aisle seat.

Meeting started 10:10am

First Team Matches
It had been a mixed week for the first team having beaten Leeds on the Sunday, but then been humiliated by NS Mura in Slovenia on the Thursday evening.

Starting with the 2-1 win against Leeds, Antonio said that it was a game of 2 halves. He had been catching up with Jose the week before who had mentioned that he would optimise the players during his time at the club by putting them into a low block counter attacking formation. So, Antonio had decided to double bluff Bielsa by adopting Jose’s system in the first half and then playing his own system in the second half. Classic rope-a-dope stuff, but we ended up winning. Hojbjerg was key to this strategy after spending the entire 1st half chatting to Dier at the back, before wandering forward unmarked and scuffing it into the bottom corner. Reggie then got the winner, before being subbed for young Ryan.

Moving on to Thursday’s 2-1 defeat, Antonio looked at Daniel and said “I told you I would get you the extra playoff game and revenue at our new ground”. The whole group chuckled as Antonio explained how he had put Davinson at left centre half, Dele on the left wing and Bryan on the right wing. He’d also picked Harry, knowing he wouldn’t bother running around whilst making sure that Son didn’t play long enough to accidentally win the game. Daniel applauded Conte and said that the extra million revenue will go straight into the transfer kitty.

Looking ahead, Antonio said that he expects 9 points from Burnley, Brentford and Norwich. Ledley interjected and said that he thinks we will only get 7 points from 9 until the forwards start scoring. Daniel then said that they were both wrong. He will go in between them both and bet that Spurs will get 8 points from the 3 games. Confused looks all round.

Transfer Update
Fabio said that him and Steve had been busy in the last 2-3 weeks assessing the market. They have now got Antonio’s feedback from his first month in charge and understands the positions they need to strengthen. Antonio said that he wants Pickford, Aarons, De Vrij, De Ligt, Kessie, Majer and Vlahovic in January. Daniel was furiously typing on his spreadsheet before suggesting that him and Fabio should meet offline.

Steve mentioned that he has another list for Spurs to consider. It includes Ndiaye, Ndong, Ndoye and Ndjoli. Ryan challenged Steve, mentioning that didn’t have Nkunku and Ndidi on his list.

Movies on the Team Bus
Antonio said the club was introducing a series of inspirational movies to show the players in the coming weeks on the team bus. All other devices would be banned, and everyone must participate. We would start with the new Bond movie, No Time to Lose on the way to Burnley. On the way back, he has threatened to make them watch Frozen and The Snowman if they don’t win, followed by karaoke of the soundtracks. Apparently, the players looked very motivated when they found out they might be watching Escape to Victory if they won.
