It's five Walt:
We are letting go five of the club’s longest serving scouts as part of the ongoing restructuring of their football staff.
Ian Broomfield, Augusto Benito, Alessandro Sbrizzo, Dave Butler and Colin Jackson are all leaving as part of Tottenham’s transformation of their scouting team.
The move is part of a complete review of football operations dating back to the arrival of chief football officer Scott Munn in September 2023. Tottenham then
appointed Johan Lange as technical director in October 2023, with Rob Mackenzie following as Tottenham’s new chief scout.
Ange has made no secret of how underpowered Spurs were in the summer when they were without a director of football, and has since spoken of his good relationship with Lange and Mackenzie and his respect for their work.
He views good recruitment as key to his rebuilding job at Tottenham, and it appears the club are doing all they can to build a structure that supports him.
The wider context to this is that a number of long-serving staff have left Spurs over the last few years in what has been a period of monumental change for the club. The news on Thursday was the latest example of that, and has been badly received by some in and around the club.
Ultimately these decisions will be judged by Tottenham’s performance in the transfer market, which have been much improved in the last few years.
