The Science and Technology Thread

Twitter insiders have told the BBC that the company is no longer able to protect users from trolling, state-co-ordinated disinformation and child sexual exploitation, following lay-offs and changes under owner Elon Musk.

Funny what can happen to child protection, the loss of facts and certain big money country backers when a bad business man but excellent grifter and NONCE (in Musk's own words) takes over eh!

Real life 'Terminator 2' robot can melt to escape jail, then solidify on command.

Scientists have created a tiny "Terminator 2"-like robot that can melt and resolidify itself on command, enabling it to easily escape from confined spaces.

Wolfie's fine honey, Wolfie's just fine.

That cannot be real - and more importantly why would that be a skill in normal life?

Maybe I need a few more cans before it twigs lol

A gene variant which is known to increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancer has been identified in people with Orkney heritage.
A new study suggests one in 100 people with grandparents from Orkney has a specific mutation of the BRCA1 gene.

Just throwing it out there (and I know it'll be more complex), is the rise in cancer not so much due growing older, but historic potential interbreeding?

This is wildly specific on the target point and I find that very interesting.

Oh fuck off, fuck off right now, fuck further off and continue pissing off you bunch of fucktards.

Rolls-Royce has received funding from the UK Space Agency to develop a nuclear reactor for a moon base.
The project will look into how nuclear power could be used to support a future base on the moon for astronauts.

How about we sort this country, nay, the planet out first before spunking taxpayer money on science fiction fucking pipe dreams where commercialisation comes above the lives of the very people who pay for this theoretical shit.

A fucking moon base - how about we have a base for homeless people first?

It's amazing the things that 'we' have money for and the things 'we' don't. Helping the less fortunate citizens of the country certainly isn't on the list but moon bases are. Increasing military spending certainly is but helping veterans isn't. Building enormously expensive railways is but making sure Dave from Telford gets a hip operation isn't.

Just filing this here with the correction needed in the future as history is littered with examples of where Big Corporations are doing things only for the best interests of people. The original story is how the 5G rollout can cause planes to crash, and they aren't stopping the rollout. It's better for people to Tweet and TikTok than land safely, at least you can livestream the crash to your loved ones.

"Technology companies have said 5G AI is safe and have accused the aviation industry anyone who is against it of fearmongering and distorting facts. "

No surprises Pete Buttigieg is front and centre, total ****. If deadlines need to be pushed in the interests of safety then so be it.

Automations worked a treat on the 737 Max didn’t they?

Any of you wizz kids know of any device, preferably legal, that will allow me to get terrestrial tv, freeview, etc without using an Ariel.
