The Olympics thread

Sport seems to have become a bit too open to change and the Olympics are included in that, accepting any random new event and devaluing the rest and diluting the whole thing.

Masks on the podium FFS.

The photo of a lifetime ruined for no reason.

We'll surely look back on such images and wonder what sort of strange forces were at play to develop an apparent cult of mask wearing.

No crowds isn't enough is it. Must shove masks on the athletes at all times even though they'll be tested every day.

You just want to watch sport but cannot avoid having this shit shoved in your face every 30 seconds.

Not watched any of it and will happily ignore it for another however long it's on.

Men's mountain biking event on now with Tom Pidcock well in contention, and Van der Poel also involved.

What a morning! - watching young guys and girls you've hardly heard of excelling at sports you hardly ever watch, and winning medals for GB - this is what sport is all about :love::love:

Yes, a much more 'Olympics' feel to today.

You mean random new events such as blokes pedalling a pushbike through the woods?

Mountain biking might be quite new but it is a very worthy event. Need to be good at everything on a bike to do that.

Men's time trial prediction:

1. Ganna
2. Van Aert
3. Roglic

But Dumoulin has put in a fantastic 1st lap, 40 seconds quicker than anybody.

(It's on now)

Fucking hell Roglic

That's just silly.

He even carried on after the finish line - what would he have done if he knew when the end was?!

I do think leaving the TdF early then focusing on a specific target is a great way to prepare. This seems evidence of that.

I see the usual lefty loons are calling Simone Biles "stunning and brave" for pulling out of the Olympics. I'd never tell someone that they should do something they don't want to do, and there are more important things than sporting achievement, but giving up at the first sign of adversity is literally the opposite of "stunning and brave". If a multi-millionaire world class athlete can't cope with the anxiety of potential failure then what hope does the rest of generation snowflake have? As Kipling said, "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same".
