🚹 Tanguy Ndombélé - Player Thread

NRD has already done so

Also, just look at him physically.

He joined fat and out of shape.

No kiny he hasn't, absolutely nothing, and I suspect nor can you.

He joined unquestionably not in the best shape, but carrying an injury will do that to you.

So far the evidence of him having a 'mentality' issue is absolutely zero - from anyone.

I did mention his physique was not impressive. His upper body lacks definition, his arms not muscled. Some players are just not made that way but that doesn't exclude them of comparison or suitability in a demanding physical role which he has.

So EX do you know what the medical team are doing to sort out his problem when it’s obvious that rest doesn’t fix it after 6 months.

Too fat, too lazy. The report cards were in for Tanguy Ndombele, and they did not make for comfortable reading. First it was Guingamp who cast him out, deeming him not worthy of a professional contract, and now it was Amiens who were saying a firm no to this shy young midfielder with a protruding belly.
Ndombele had joined Amiens in 2014, when he was 17. At that age, the most talented players are often beginning to forge their paths into senior football. Ndombele’s route pointed in the other direction, away from the professional game and back towards home.

Whilst playing for the Guingamp reserves, the midfielder was also accused of having a bad attitude and being unable to drag himself out of bed in the mornings.

I've already admitted to the 'fat' issue - but he dealt with it, changed his diet, stopped eating African porridge his mum made him - which was the issue.

None of that constitutes a 'mental weakness' issue.

I have seen so many young African players that looked like that, it's almost the norm in many cases; it's a question of being conditioned to what food can be put in front of you at an early age.

A more telling fact is playing 100+ games in the last two years.

The leap to him having some form of mental weakness because he followed the club's protocol is patently ridiculous and shows once again how poisonous Jose's comments were - and you can tell that just by the way some here have interpreted them.

In my book it's utterly ridiculous.

lol - look at the top photo of Boubakary Soumare in this recent article

Seems to me that one of the highly touted young players in Europe is eating the same porridge....perhaps the wind got hold of his shirt though :-)

On a serious note, has anyone watched The Game Changers documentary?
https://gamechangersmovie.com
It's on a few media channels like YouTube, Netflix etc.

Watched it a few days ago. Crazy to think that any footballer can be out of shape fully fit or injured if they really want to win.

Did the porridge give him a bad attitude as mentioned as well?

I can hear the gasps of indignation, but I know several pro fooballers - one at the highest level; who stuff their faces when injured / taking a break and only work themselves into shape in pre-season/during the season; there are many footballers and medics who believe that it's actually healthy and helpful to build and carry a reserve into the season....and actually trim and slim as the season unwinds.

It's far more pro's that do that than anyone would probably ever guess at, it is also to some extent due to their genetic profile and their upbringing in Africa where many regions survive on mainly carbs.

Any mental or attitude issues seem to be quite a few years ago and from 17 to 22 is a significant maturing phase. People mature at different rates and ages so its not a science. The physical maturity or conditioning is there to see but what's inside his head is not so obvious. What happened years ago at such a young age is not evidence of how he is now. But its worth keeping an eye on.

If you think anything about that is sign of a bad attitude, you're badly mistaken; sterotyping is highly typical when you see these transformative approaches.

It's interesting, the scouting reports I saw all speak of his tough upbringing and his tough mentality, but hey ho, let's hang him and all follow Jose's lead.

I guess this hanging out to dry hysteria is a generational issue....what I heard from Jose is the actual situation with a major resource that he is unable to play, and what I haven’t heard since is anyone saying anything about how they are going to correct the situation.

The club cannot afford to have this amount of potential talent available on an occasional basis when the player feels up to playing and that is in no way a comment about his mental state but it is a factual statement about his medical condition.

I ask again, what are the medical staff doing to help the guy get over his problem?

For now, all I can say is the approach normally; is they will work with coaches on a full remedial tailored program until the player has 100% confidence that his body can deal with the demands of a match and /or send him to outside consultants to do further investigations and perhaps even warm weather training.

Thanks Ex...I hope this will be a new plan because whatever they have been doing so far hasn’t produced results...I’d prefer a referral to specialist consultants.

What a waste of money.

That summer window was a joke and didn't actually address any issues that we had and still have.

As the father of a GB level youth athelete who trains 7days a week I haven’t got much time for atheletes who can’t even keep themselves fit. If he has an injury there are hundreds of exercises available to work other muscle groups. In fact injuries are always oppertunities to concentrate on other aspects, mental included, which you haven’t got quite so much time when in full time competition. Does my nut in when I hear the excuses for people slacking off. We need to start looking at players history much more if we are buying players for £60m + and they don’t even know how to keep themselves fit.

yo would think that our medical staff would have suggested that by now...but who knows...the only fact in all this is that he is still not ready to be selected on a permanent basis, and after 6 months someone should be held accountable...and that isn't Jose.

So Jose has had another dig at the boy at his latest presser.
On the face of it, I think that Jose is being churlish to criticise the lad when Eriksen is still being applauded for his shit performances..as they are..erm ..not his fault..as he wants to leave....

I get that Jose is needing players to step up at a difficult time. Lamella he said, offered to play some part even when he wasn't 100%.

That attitude and commitment obviously goes along way with Jose.

But the digs and slight lack of compassion where N'dom is concerned is a bit worrying.

Jose, by telling the press, to ask N'dom if he is frustrated at his form/injury is basically telling everyone he doesn't bother speaking to a guy, who is currently our most expensive signing ever.

Jose has cmade ripples when there was absolutely no need to.

Its eerily reminiscent of the Pogba situation he had at United.

On the other hand, we dont know whats going on behind the scenes.
N'dom may be taking the micky and is being an total arse about things.

He was, after all, Mopos man.

Contrary to what people said about Pogba being a good lad and Jose being in the wrong at the time, I know that when Mrs S had to do some filming with him over a few days she confirmed that he was indeed a utter horror to be around and was in dire need of a slap - not an arm around him. Some of the other people who had worked with him had all had similar experiences.

So was Jose wrong to call him out from time to time?. He certainly lost that battle - but you cant say that United have gotten the player he is supposed to be.

Time will tell I guess. But it doesn't seem to have started well between Jose and another french wonderkid..

I’m all for it tbh.

Sick of players taking the piss.

Where was the criticism of Harry after he did the same with Bale?

The culture at the club needs to changed, they had a chance to do it with a lovey dovey manager and didn’t.

I agree. I am not sure if Mopo was too lenient with them.
Say what you like about Timmy, when he called a few out after a defeat I was more than happy for him to do so. It was refreshing. and deserved.

I wonder if there is more to this than we are seeing. To my mind, if Jose rated him, he wouldn't be doing it this way.

He clearly can blow smoke up players arses when he chooses to, as he is doing with Eriksen at the moment.
