Takeover

Don’t worry Enfield exiled tic is rarely correct. As for Cook he’s a smart man. eSports is growing massively year on year both financially and from a fanbase perspective. Didn’t he join UFC just before it started to grow hugely? Sky Sports have started broadcasting eSports events recently as well. Mr Cook knows what he’s doing and it sounds like his new job description is to turn Gfinity into a global eSports brand (like the UFC is to MMA so to speak). Also going off topic of the takeover, I wouldn’t be surprised if Latics employs any “eSports athletes” in the future with the amount of money being pumped into games like Fortnite, FIFA, CS etc. Many European clubs now employ professional eSports athletes to complete in their name at tournaments. It can be very lucrative and bring in more supporters/sponsors to the club.

He’s not a consultant though, he’s a director. And I’m not insulting his integrity I’m just stating what he’s doing. He’s taking his well earnt paycheck and leaving us for a different job when he was more than welcome to stay at the club. In other words, jumping ship. I struggle to believe Garry Cook would rather work with computers than try to guide a football club to the Premier League. Unless the club doesn’t have the resources to get there...

Why do you care so much. He was brought in to sell the club and has, big deal it doesn't matter who cares

I'm cautiously optimistic for the future. There's a wide number of clubs that have Chinese investment - Manchester City being one of them.

Gary Cook's last major role before he came in as a non-exec director was with the UFC, who shortly afterwards brokered a huge sale to WME/IMG group. They in turn have done a new television deal. Cook has done what was within his remit, find new investment. We can only speculate upon what that may be.

There quite clearly was several moving parts to the football club, liquid assets and property, playing staff, other non liquid assets and the like in sperate holding companies, plus a loan. The club needed new ownership and money to even consolidate our position in The Championship; Premier League clubs getting relegated have television and prize money which dwarfs the £22m combined fee that will acquire the club.

I'd love to see a gradual evolution of the club, whereby there's a modest injection into the playing staff in the summer and building upon IEC's casino knowledge (which I think is something that they'd consider with the building adjacent to the stadium). I'd also like to see the club properly engage with and see through a youth setup where if we do lose players, it isn't for free - Thomas Powell going to Hull is one of a few examples I can think of.

Dec 16, 2017 - Take it from me there will be no takeover in the near future and despite reports elsewhere there has been no offers made!!
Lack of nouse or a nonce ?

Christopher Park is an interesting one. £150,000 quid
There is a link on the club website noting that Wigan Athletic took over the site in 1995 and purchased it in 2012.
https://www.wiganathletic.com/news/2013/january/christopher-park-plans-unveiled/

The takeover document intimates a lease or have I read that wrong ?

"Property B is sports academy facility held by David Whelan on a lease commencing on 18 May 2012 and ending on 17 May 2111. The property is sublet to WAFCL on an underlease for a term commencing on 18 January 2013 and ending on 17 January 2038."

With regarding to leasing both ourselfs and Warriors signed a 50 year lease when we moved into the DW, neither lease agreement is mentioned in the report but the Warriors Chairman confirmed there is absolutely no change to the lease under the new ownership. Which is good to know.

The council have retained 15% of the Stadium ownership too which i believe was always the safegaurd to try and ensure the towns two sports teams don't end up made homeless.

gary cook i think will be one like someone said above joe royle could well be the other
as i expect experience will be required with the investment that will be forth coming....or possibly people we dont know as yet
No idea why some think Royal will be involved. He’s 70 year’s old and retired. Sharpe has already made it clear in the press he hopes to be involved. I’d also say Jackson is more likely than G Cook (who may stay on as a consultant). As G Cook has been linked with a CEO role in a motorsport organisation.

*Just read subsequent posts about his move to an eSports organisation. Wouldn’t be surprised if he has multiple directorships. Also worth noting he’s s lifelong Whelan family friend. He’s not just been brought in for his experience.

Garry Cook's new role was noted on the previous page.
Posted again.

.

The Joe Royle story originated from a story in the paper reccently (think it was Alan Nixon) apparently Joe's son is an agent and had some involvement with the consortium / takeover deal and started attending games towards the end of the season.

I agree Jackson and Sharpe would make the most sense, but if Joes son is has ties to the new owners or deal you know there is a good chance he'll have tried to hook up his dad with a role. But Joe has been overseeing the Everton accademy for years until Big Sam moved him on, so i'm certain he has a wealth of knowledge and expertise he could offer as the new owners look to improve our own youth set up.

Alternatively we never talk about Sharpes brother who is also on the board but we never hear much from. It wouldn't shock me if Whelan asked for his 2 grandsons to have a place in the new set up if they occupy the 2 seats on the board.

Doesn't Sharpe's brother Matt deal more with Whelans other business interests? Such as retail and fitness.
I know he's currently on Latics board but would probably be to busy with his other stuff to take on a full time role at Latics.

It's really gone quiet since the announcement on Monday. Does anyone have any news?

From the official statement on the club website on Monday:

"International Entertainment Corporation expected to complete purchase the shares, subject to Hong Kong Stock Exchange approval and EFL consent.
No further comment will be made until the aforementioned approval and consent has been granted and the process is completed.
The club would like to thank its supporters for their patience throughout this process."

I wonder what they meant by that, why have we not heard anything else, we've been patient for long enough surely, it's been 2 days for god sake !!
