He went to Newcastle and John Hope and David Ford(ex pig&pig fan) came to BDBL.I wasn't thrilled when we let Tudor leave.UTMPB

Agreed on that, but John Hope did play well when he first arrived.
The other relevant factor was that Trevor Hockey arrived at the same time, although he wasn’t part of the swap deal - he cost £40,000.
After some poor results, John Harris wanted to add a bit of extra steel in midfield (Hockey), and because Alan Hodgkinson’s long and illustrious career was at an end, we needed a new ‘keeper. I suspect it was the only way we could afford both Hockey and Hope.
Anyway, it worked, because we got promoted

Yes it certainly worked Bigglenaldo but i still would've prefered TUDOR to have stayed at BDBL,that said i spose there was a similar situation when BROOKSY was sold we used that money very well.UTMPB

Correct. I went to Bolton a couple of weeks earlier, and we were very poor. Only Tudor seemed interested, and he scored our goal in a 2-1 defeat. We were going for promotion and Bolton were bottom of the league. I can remember talking to a very depressed David Powell in the treatment room the Monday after. His language was appalling about the lack of effort shown by some of his team mates.
We needed a shake-up and John Harris provided one.
At the time, Tudor was playing inside right (Billy Dearden at no. 9), so Ford was supposed to be his replacement. Ford proved ineffective - hence the purchase of Scullion at the end of the season.
John Harris was a very shrewd man.

Yes i was at that Bolton game mi owd pal and you're r8 we were very poor.Dave Powell was Brilliant i think and i'm surprised he rarely gets mentioned,in my opinion he was a gr8 foil for BIG EDDIE.I also really rated Scullion when we signed him and i used to love how he walked upto defenders before settin off on a run to get by em.Gr8 times my friend and of course we had my BLADES Holy Triangle Sir Len,WOODY King of the Wing and of course THE GREATEST, 108568067_10224442018944488_8642370526730748750_n.jpg GOD.:toot::party:UTMPB

We went to the first game Hope and Hockey played in at Oxford. we beat them 2 0 if I remember right. Hope was bought because Hodgy had started missing a few crosses.

Actually 2-1 CJJ. Billy Dearden got both our goals.
I’ve no idea who scored their’s, but obviously it wasn’t very memorable.

I just loved Billy Dearden. What a bargain he was. 👍
Deadly Dearden was a winger at Chester and the rumours at the time were he was signed to take WOODY's place who looked like he may be leaving BDBL because he'd been, shall we say socialising:whistle: with some of the Ladies in the offices. A bloke i know who worked at TREETON pit told me his sister had been one of those socialising with the King of the Wing.UTMPB
