Never quite became a first team regular wherever he was, only scored 33 career goals. He played under Bobby Robson at Ipswich so if he was going to make the grade he would have there. Only 60 when he died back in 2008.

I was amazed that he would tell a prospective employer that Bully, particularly as we had some style and shape under him. Too honest for his own good?

Didn't Steve Bruce resign the following year, as with Spackman a result of the owners over stretching, paying stupid wages etc and we didn't learn the lesson. Hope we don't have a repeat performance coming up.
