Jonah's Really REALLY Interesting Thread

To be honest we all knew where we stood and who to contact if we had problems with the Electric, now who do you get in touch with, a billing company, I don't think so. I think it's Npower and British gas for gas
npower got into difficulties and got swallowed up by EON.

Western Power that's who has to do our mains electric problems. Ie the main fuse etc
Western Power have the nationwide contract for all the work. My neighbour bought an All Electric car and needed to have a charging pod fitted outside the house. Turned out that the mains to my house was just a loop off hers. They had to dig up a couple of hundred yards of pavement to lay a new cable and then dig a hole in my garage floor and send the mole under the drive so that they could give a feed direct to my house. The bloke in charge from Western Power said they were having the same problem all over the country.

That will be the next balls up 30 million charging points and trying to generate enough electricity for this crazy idea in 8 years time.

Morning astonion, morning all, @kefkat, same question to you both, was the outlay for the solar worth it.

I'm in social housing as they call it now so didn't pay for the solar panelling.

My neighbour and I were picked for it as we agreed to have other work done as part of a scheme and photos taken of.

Involved new windows (finally) new CGH and rewire to get the solar panels. Fine by me. Year after we had the new kitchen and bathroom fitted to by tenant choice.

Guess part of is how well we look after the property as we have spent alot of our own money on it too.

Proper fencing, garden renovation, driveway, fitted wardrobes, laminate hardwood throughout and so on over the years.

Need to change the worksurfaces again as they looking a bit worn now. Tenent choice is every 20 years so I'm not waiting 14 years for it to be done again.

Just have to inform the council we are doing it and it's not an issue

yes, very wise, new worktops are a great lift for a 'tired' kitchen aren't they.

Yes! I love my kitchen and still do alot of cooking and baking in there for others too now.

I love my home. I went through so much to get it and it looking nice is important to me

Morning all, just been and £7.63 worth of petrol in a 5litre can for my stepdaughter as she is out of petrol.
That's when it hits you how much a gallon we are paying for the stuff, I filled it up yesterday so I felt a right prat filling up a can and not even having room for a litre in the tank.

ps bring back total lockdown when it was 99p a litre and they couldn't sell it

Morning kk. You would be raving mad not to say yes to that offer. Don't blame you for putting your own cash into your home. It's where you live and are happy, and being council you have security of tenure, unlike in a private rental property you can find your self out on the street in no time for no good reason. Its amazing how quickly you can revamp a kitchen with new worktops, taps handles and paint. Think the work surfaces might be more than a bit worn if you wait fourteen years.

Please tell me you’re not one of these c-bombs filling up can after can after can ‘57?! Just the one and we’ll let you off

Once upon a time when I was growing up people were looked down on in social housing. Now it's the right type of housing if you can get it. I used to be owner/occupier. My needs after fleeing the ex were different to what they had been.

In many ways social housing tenancy is the most secure you can get. If you have a mortgage and lose your job you don't get any help with paying the mortgage where you fo get help in rented. Agrees over private rented too.

I only got mine on the aftermath of fleeing the ex in 2000. We walked through hell in the aftermath to get this and our lives back on track.

This place was an eviction when I got it so you can imagine the mess it was in.

I love my home. I will never move from here. I don't mind what I spend on it.

I've taken our life insurance to leave the offspring money. This way they don't have the hassle of a home to sell.

Living in York in social housing is very sort after so its not like an inner city social housing.

I wouldn't have paid out for solar panelling though. Its only cos it was put in for free we have it
