Here we go!

Because they’re our closest neighbours, their lives are important and it’s sad they are failing their citizens. I have friends there and their failures are putting their lives at risk because of bloc unity.
It’s really quite pathetic

Once again, perhaps look closer to home before flinging accusations around. Its offensive.

If we are talking about failures I can think of 97749* reasons why our Government has more to be ashamed about than any other country in Europe.
Pathetic indeed.

* and counting.....sadly

Moderna won’t be ready until the spring.
what the EU should have done was prioritise approval for ones that are available like, now.
I’m sure the fact the EU approved a vaccine that isn’t available yet, 2 whole days prior to the U.K. will be a huge PR victory.
You might be misinformed in your blaming again.
Moderna won't be ready until spring... for us. They were shipping vaccines in Europe on 12th Jan.
The EU had bought loads and then upped their order more recently - some eu states opted in and others may have opted out due to uncertainty in the delivery schedule of the additional sizes. We bought some on only the 29th November and now have to wait our turn accordingly.

Are we still handing out cheers and punishment beatings?

German media claiming that AZ is only 8% effective in the over 65s.

London denying that; there is some suggestion that Germans have got confused with 8% of the AZ test cases being over 65

Moderna also appearing to be far superior to the Oxford vaccine.
Yes. The mRNA ones seem to absolutely kick ass beyond expectations. It was a gamble of sorts. I'm full of admiration for all the different efforts and applaud purchasing strategies by governments that diversified vaccines by type and manufacturer. That includes ours. It was the sensible thing to do. Of course, some want to politicise it by claiming the EU were "forced into buying a French vaccine" when actually they diversified appropriately, or by putting a flag on the bottle.

I think the 8% is misleading but Oxford did deliberately recruit over 65s late into their study, and they were all well shielded. So there were far less time for cases to acrew.

One of the dangers of rushing a drug through is you just don't have the data for any type of certainty. At the moment it's a bit all wait and see.

Oxford themselves said they focused on under 55s, and that data for over 65s was very limited but they hoped to have more in time.

It's one of the reasons the FDA was cautious about it.

You are aware that we failed in the manufacturing process and our doses have been coming from the EU? If AZ fail to address supply then the EU could cut us off...

Some clarification of your question.

We failed? What is we? You know that AZ is a private company, so not sure what 'we failed' means. Also in what way have AZ manufacturing in the UK failed?

The UK gets the majority of their AZ vaccines from UK manufactured plants.

For someone who has been doing all he can to trumpet leaving the EU, you do seem awfully interested in them, constantly posting on what they are doing.

Why dont you focus on your own country for a bit?

This whole thread is about bashing the UK for leaving the EU. Is this just a one way street?

Once again, perhaps look closer to home before flinging accusations around. Its offensive.

Offensive?

So the EU can't be criticised because you find it offensive?

You criticise(d) the US administration and the UK administration with such alacrity it was like you are being paid.

Why is the EU beyond criticism?

EU threatens to block exports of Pfizer Covid vaccine.

Concerns over supply to Britain as Brussels demands tighter controls after AstraZeneca row

Britain's Covid vaccine supply is in jeopardy after the EU threatened to block exports of the Belgian-made Pfizer jabs amid a row with UK-based AstraZeneca.

Brussels decided to impose tighter controls on exports after reacting with fury to the news that AstraZeneca will deliver 50 million fewer doses to the EU than it had expected.

Ministers now fear deliveries of the Pfizer jabs will – at best – be delayed by extra paperwork and that the EU could try to stop doses being sent...

...Back in March, the bloc imposed export restrictions on personal protective equipment after it struggled with supply to its member states.

On Monday night, MPs accused the EU of acting out of "spite" and trying to deflect blame for its own mistakes.

One of the key ingredients in the Belgian made Pfizer vaccine is made in the UK. The lipids are made by Croda, here. Any interruption of the Pfizer vaccine supply for spiteful, nationalistic reason must be answered by a ban on the export of the lipids out of the UK.

So much for all the remainers who were screaming hysterically from the rooftops about the UK not joining the EU scheme. We'd have probably had a tenth of the supply we've managed to secure for ourselves after the EU allocated the supply vaccines 'fairly' (ie not prioritising the UK).

When are these people going to wake up? With the EU people don't matter, only themselves and politics.

The EU are sabre-rattling about a trade war now, they are so obsessed with the UK it's embarrassing. Their own bloc is burning, riots in The Netherlands and Belgium. In France they're fuming and Le Pin is ahead in the polls.

They're just fantastic when it comes to deciding the correct size and shape of fruit and veg, but any real crisis and they are found wanting, do the wrong thing and blame everybody else.

A talking committee brimming with junket-loving spaff monkeys; heaven forbid if they ever do get that army, they'll rock up and realise the weapons had no lethal packages. FFS.

Selected info from a legal perspective taken from a respected lawyer...

If, as seems likely, the AstraZeneca/EU Advanced Purchase Agreement (APA) is similar to the Curevac/EU APA, AstraZeneca's legal position in regard to delay and/or reduction of supply, appears strong.
The Recitals in the agreement makes general acknowledgement for possible changes to: current best estimates, reduced volumes & possible delays.
In the body of the APA, DELAYS includes provision for delay caused by lack of EMA authorisation!
TERMINATION OF THE APA, the pharmaceutical firm may terminate the agreement if EMA authorisation isn't granted. The EU Commission has 30 days to object. To date EMA authorisation hasn't been granted. Maybe AZ are losing patience & have threatened to terminate?
So the EU have asked AZ for sight of its order book to compare order fulfilment to other parties
.

One must naturally imagine this has been refused by AZ on the grounds of confidentiality; who do the EU think they are to ask that?

So what has the EU done? Set about on a smear campaign by lying about the efficacy in the over 65s, which is clearly nonsense! It's extraordinary behaviour. Then threatening to prevent vaccine exports from AZ's European facility.

What are the EU doing??
