German football returns from tomorrow, and in this country the matches will be shown live on BT Sports (2:30pm kick-offs) for those who subscribe (and no doubt on internet streams for those who don't...)

I don't know much about German football, but it will be interesting to see what football is going to be like for the foreseeable future, with no fans and five subs per match. Sky Sports have produced a guide to help fans choose a team to support based on each Premier League side and have picked Union Berlin for us. It makes sense when you read about the similarities. They play in red and white as well...

Union paly in an Arsenal type strip.

Schalke fans have posted a reason why every Premier League clubs fans should follow them.
Everything from ex players, ex managers, home colours they play in, away colours they play in, size of city, size of region, industrial heritage, anything they could think of that they could relate to a Premier League club they've done it.

Like the sound of Schalke - they'll do for me.

Lol - its David Wagner - quite like him too.....need to find their Vital Football site equivalent to have a chat with their fans
Schuppose Schteve chose Enschede 'cos Schalke already had a manager and his schedule schaid that would be schufficient?

You can guarantee that the standard of written English will be better on their VF.

Especially with Rod keeping our average down, if you know what I mean...

After living in northern Germany for a while I'm an honourary Cod-head who likes to see Werder Bremen do well. They're a bit scheiße right now though and looking like they're set to go down to the second tier with their pals Hamburg. A 41 year old striker gets regular game time for them.

The standard of the league's not great though. You have the top three head and shoulders above the rest with Gladbach and Leverkusen the best of the rest. Dortmund are the entertainers, with Sancho, Hakimi, Reus, Hazard, Gotze and Haland ripping teams apart, problem is they are poor at the back.

Schalke with their Mining background, they used to get most of their players from the Mining region of Gelsenkirchen, you would have thought share similarities with the population of Sheffield and surrounding areas. Unfortunately the similarity seems to be more with our porcine neighbours. Play in Royal Blue and White and had three players banned for life for fixing games in 1971. Two of them West German Internationals. Not for me.

Watching the Dortmund v Schalke game (currently 3-0 to Dortmund) and while it is strange with no crowd, there is no sign of players acting like it is just a training session or anything. Playing goal music in an empty stadium is a bit OTT though...
