Boxing thread

I know it's not boxing but from 12pm tomorrow free on YouTube I think there is an amazing one championship card. Their biggest in their history.

It has demetrious Johnson fighting a viscous muay Thai specialist in an interesting event where one round is muay Thai, one round MMA, next round muay Thai, next round MMA. Should be a good watch.

Also the best female muay Thai fighter stamp fairtex for a title.

And also current king of muay Thai superbon defends his title.

Should be a great watch.

Curious to understand how Josh Warrington has a title shot later tonight having recently getting destroyed by a Mexican club fighter. It's against Kiko Martinez who is ancient and as long in the tooth as they come but nevertheless has a very good punch on him.

Warrington already has a win over Martinez but it was a very contentious one. I'll be rooting for Martinez. I absolutely hate Warrington's style. Applies loads of pressure but is a powder puff puncher, uses his face as a shield and has very low skill but the Sky commentators act like he's Pernall Whitaker.

Golovkin vs Murata, great fight, really enjoyed it. Murata is a good fighter and Golovkin stops him in round 9 to take his WBA title.

Golovkin at 40 years old now looks more muscular than ever, clearly on the vitamin S. Age has definitely caught up with him though, he's slower than ever and is shipping a lot of punishment these days. He looked hurt a fair few times with his body being the his weakness. He did not cope with the body shots that well and whilst I believe he beat Canelo in his two fights against him I'd expect Canelo to stop the old Golovkin this time around with a body shot.

That said he still puts his punches together beautifully and was able to unleash many a violent assault with perfectly placed punches from a variety of angles and level changes. The power is still there. He looks great for his age.

van Heerden isn't a puncher so you can take liberties. Against a guy with a stiff jab, power and a counter punch it's a different story. This is why Brook is the perfect match. Whilst it should be a passing of the torch type fight he has the weapons to exploit Benn's weaknesses.

If Benn can't get past a capable yet old fighter in Brook who has had much better days then he'd have zero chance against a Spence or Crawford.

Speaking of Spence, I have just watched is fight with Ugas. Ugas is a very good welterweight, one of the better ones out there, Spence wins by TKO on the doctors stoppage.

This is probably the first time I can recall Spence getting hurt, he was badly hurt by Ugas in round 6 I think. At 32 and with lots of problems out the ring and lots of injuries I don't think Spence has really pushed on at all from when he dismantled Brook in 2017. He's still a top welter, but he's shipping more punishment and Ugas, a fairly light puncher, was hurting him.

He still has a lot going for him, a multi-faceted attack which incorporates a lot of body work and subtle level changes, good power and in fighting etc. A fight with Crawford is next logic step for the division in general as it would unify all four belts and would be an intriguing fight and clash of styles.

Yeah Connor Benn needs to stop fannying about and step up his opponents quality I think. Enough with the record padding now. That said I am a huge Benn fan. I honestly think he could dominate in 2/3 years.

Well, that's my once every 5/10yr foray into boxing done with again.

The southpaw pivot and the ref almost being sparko'ed were the highlights. Think there was more hugging than boxing.

Going into the fight I thought all week that it was always going to end one way and it did.

How it got 94,000 people to sell out the fight out almost immediately was beyond me.

Yeah, thought that. Biggest ever European crowd, wtf. They have been done, as have the box office ppv viewers. Whyte is so poor and Fury needs to fight the winner of Usyk v AJ .
