Insurance. They are the players you never want to use because if you are then your top players are not available but you would be caught without your trousers on if you didn't have them. Bruce and Roberts also bring absolute bags of experience that is always useful for a young team behind the...

Power to Sunderland makes sense with the signing of Connolly. He's not good enough for the Championship and we can get a decent fee from Sunderland.

Cook made a point when contracts were offered to Perkins, Hunt, Roberts et al of telling them how much he expected them to play. Reasonable to expect he would have done the same with Perch and Wallace. It's just as likely, based on that assumption, that they've left not because we couldn't...

The players we're linked with are hardly "kiddies" Robinson is a fully fledged international with ~30 appearances in the Championship. That's more than the players he'd be replacing if he is one of the targets.

    Rangers (away)

Just a quick question, can anyone name a game under Cook where the pressure HASN'T been on and we've played well? I can't think of any looking back at the friendlies, cup games and dead rubbers at the end of the season.

    Bolton on strike

The latest installment in "How not to run your football club", that crazy summer comedy about a wheeler dealer who suddenly finds himself in charge of a football club that is hemorrhaging money, has been released...

Sorry, I'm getting our striking flops mixed up! When we sold Andy Delort on we had a 30+% sell on clause, he then moved to Tigres from Caen for £7m which netted us £2m+ on top of the £2m+ add ons fee Caen paid us. Fortunately for us Caen also put a big sell on clause in their deal (something...

That is the up front fee, no doubt there will be all sorts of clauses and sell on fees added in. At 16 the player is a long way from developed. We've done very well out of sell on clauses (we got something like £10m from Boselli thanks to the various sell on clauses), so I would imagine that...

    Podcast

I have a friend who follows Melbourne and he puts it down more to the poor quality of the league in general than any great thing done by any one manager. His opinion of the A League puts it somewhere around Northern Prem level (he is an ex-England based Kiwi so may be biased!)

Can't understand McManaman, he's regressed since he was here. Wildschut I wouldn't mind but as mentioned we still look awfully short in defence.

    Takeover

As far as I've been able to see and with my limited knowledge of past takeovers these delays are nothing to be particularly surprised about. Don't forget there are lots of players to please in this scenario besides us and them. The FA, Football League, Wigan Council, the HK stock market etc...

    Lang and Gelhardt

There is a fine line to be trod with both players. If we keep them and develop them then they may save us millions in the long run, but also may turn out to be worth nothing. We've had a few supremely talented strikers come through the youth ranks who were courted by big names. John Marsden...

    Super Kal

Lets not forget that the team that got us to the Prem was unproven at this level. Just because they haven't had a chance to play at a high level doesn't mean they can't hack it. As for why we've signed him it now means we are doubled up in each attacking position. If signing him for free...

    Perkins now hunt

I think both were there to be steady hands behind the scenes and a spare body if needed. You forget just how young our team is - the average age was around 25 last season, one of the lowest in the top 3 leagues. Having old hands on the books can be helpful.

    Realistic Targets for Championship

Luke Hyam was released by Ipswich and if I recall is only 25 or 26 so would be an interesting proposal. Much depends on what our war chest looks like. IF it's a couple of million then we'll have to be astute in our signings. If it is more then who knows!
