Summer Transfer Rumour Thread

How much is our overall strike force diminished?

Yes, we have lost Johnson and not been able to replace him. A dozen goals and a dozen assists is potentially a problem.

But we have options we did not have last season. Nlundulu is a specialist centre-forward and a replacement for Hopper that we did not have - he is a different style of player but looks interesting to me. Bramall is emerging as a genuine threat down the left wing, which is something else we didn't have last year. Adelakun looks to have a touch of brilliance about him but needs to do it regularly. Maguire has vast experience and is yet to kick a ball. Bishop drives into the box from midfield far more than Grant ever did and will create lots of chances for himself and others. Robson is a genuine attacking left-back in the style of Andrew Robertson. And Scully looks on fire and on his way to hitting the 30 goals I suggested in the summer he was capable of scoring.

Dig this out in a few months and hit me over the head with it if it proves incorrect (Sincilbanks certainly will), but I don't think scoring goals will be a problem when everyone is fit and available.

That is the question and the crux of the matter with such a small squad.

I think that's actually a fair assessment, keeping everyone fit and available is the crux of the issue...

But who created the monster in Spain, France and Italy where the big clubs splash massive fees on players. Is Sky over there too ?
I'm referring to the bunfight that seems to be Deadline day.Would negotiations go to the wire without so much coverage?I don't know it just all seems quite farcical to me mate

but look at the Brexit situation that went to the wire when it had years to sort.

its just human nature - hold on to the last minute see if you can get a better offer or cheaper deal etc.

Because Sky have to make everything razzmatazz and aggressive and last minute and it's just part of the system now.

Before Sky and the Premier League:-

Players used "asked" for a move now they "demand"it
The transfer window used to "close" and now it "slams shut"
Big transfers used to be just that big moves now they are "sensational"

Everything with Sky Sports is now hyped up and dumbed down. Whenever I have watched Sky I find their coverage is generally condescending and extremely bias to whoever they believe the bigger club is. I realise I am in the minority with this but that's the way I see it and I think it has contributed to way football now works.

This may be a controversial question, but exactly what impact did Rogers have?

Clearly a talented player who had a touch unlike anything I have seen at Lincoln, but his actual influence on many games was negligible. On many occasions, I thought Harry Anderson should have been in the side instead. And it appears our ratings thread agrees - Rogers only averaged 6.49 last season, with 17 players recording a higher average (of whom 13 were regulars: Palmer, Eyoma, Montsma, Edun, McGrandles, Hopper, Grant, Scully, Anderson, Jackson, Bridcutt, Johnson and Walsh). Our ratings are not the be-all-and-end-all, but it seems strange that the members who rated him as our fourteenth best player are now bitterly regretting his departure and saying we haven't replaced him. Furthermore, he failed to score for his final 14 games for us.

A talented young player with a great touch and the ability to score spectacular goals, but what was his overall effect?

Johnson is a different matter entirely. Realistically, we had little chance of finding an equivalent.

+1 agreed!

That is an A1, not an A2.

You are correct I was getting a bit carried away of course there is still "Blue Peter"

Anyway both great loco classes the A1's and A2's and of course Peppercorn was a student of Gresley unlike Thompson but at least he did the B1 so I will give him that.

I missed Mayflower coming through Lincoln last week as I was watching us at Oxford.

Totally agree. Another thing about watching Sky (or Foxtel over here) relates to watching Fox News and CNN during the last Presidential election. CNN wasn’t too bad, but Fox News was cringeworthy bad it was so Trump/Republican-biased and almost redneck in its coverage, despite having immaculately groomed barbie dolls on it. Shortly afterwards I saw the film about Fox News and the way they treated their women presenters and (overlooking the dramatic effect) understood a lot more about their coverage and presentation.

Indeed designed by Arthur H Peppercorn chief mechanical engineer of the LNER (the original one). Unfortunately none were preserved but a few years ago they built a brand new one from the original blueprints called "Tornado"
Was he a Rent boy?

I watched a bit of Sky Sports News at lunchtime on deadline day (I had nothing better to do). I was amazed to see 5 presenters in the studio pretty much doing the same thing, just sat with a different backdrop
