Match Thread: Lincoln City v Carlisle United

What you say about the ref hadn't occurred to me but you're utterly right - conspicuous by his absence from the commentary! Can we have him more often please?
No, clueless on how to play the advantage and must be on a promise tonight as determined not to book anyone

Decent performance today.

Before any one gets giddy, its still possible to get a crap 3rd round draw.

That said it would be a nice bit of history to be Spurs' 1st opposition at the New Whitehart Lane. If all goes well for them, their last fixture at Wembley is scheduled to be Wolves on Dec. 29. A home draw for Spurs in the FA Cup should be the opening fixture at their new ground.

We can all dream.

Just being in the 3rd round is great. So nothing will be a crap draw.
No one would have said Burnley were a glamour draw yet it turned into probably the greatest day in our history.
So I'm looking forward to welcoming any team to the Bank or travelling to anywhere in the country.
Brilliant whoever and wherever it is.

First half we were appalling, improved dramatically with the first substitutions and played a bit of football. That said, 2 good goals and some great goal keeping. Throw ins (throws in?) remain a crime scene however. Bruno pushed Vickers close for M ofM.

Appalling in first half?? We Won the half and did well. Carlisle came into for last 15 mins.
But we were doing fine.
Rheady especially was excellent.
Green put in a top performance too.

John Akinde in 25 minutes today gave a lesson in how to play the role of target man - Came short, ran in behind, won headers, laid it off with his chest, used his pace and strength to beat opponents with ease and if you didn't see that you need to look harder. Oh and he scored a goal not that he needed to having done an excellent job for the side. Well done the rest of the players a very professional job by all 14 playing as a team very much on the same page today.

Yes he did well and showed he could be an ideal sub from now on

Nah get him back in while his confidence is up.

I said on the Oldham thread that I thought it was the best I'd seen him work so far. He just fell short on finishing.
Today again worked well and of course excellent finish from Bruno's brilliant cross (which itself was a result of Bruno himself not giving up and winning the ball out of nothing, top stuff).

I think some of the Carlisle fans on their website are living well in the passed.

I think they have fallen more then they think!

Personally, I’d much rather have a referee like today’s, than say Ben Toner (Tuesday’s ref) who waves yellow cards round for nearly every meaningful challenge. I can’t recall any very dangerous or cynical fouls. Most of us want to watch the players rather than some attention seeking ref.

Only the 8th time we have reached the third round in my 48 years of watching the Imps.

1974-75 (GT)
1975-76 (GT)
1976-77 (GT)
1994-95 (SE)
1998-99 (JR)
2009-10 (CS)
2016-17 (DC)
2018-19 (DC)

Only 5 out of 28 managers managed to get us there.
Being of fractionally more matured vintage, I'll add 1968-69 (Ron Gray) and 1970-71 (Bert Loxley) when we blew a 3 goal lead at Torquay.

A statto might confirm, 68-69 was the first time in 3rd round since div 2 days? Better in league Cup in those years.

S**t 3rd round draws R us, not been a 'plum' draw in any of those years and some seriously disappointing ones, we're due a break.

And I've been checking my records for Matt Rhead's goals and I tally with ScotImp on 49 to date:

No, we made the third round in 1964-65 (beat Tranmere and Hull in replays before losing 1-5 at Rotherham), 1963-4 (beat Hartlepool and Southport before losing 0-4 at home to Sheffield United) and 1962-63 (beat Darlington and Halifax before losing 1-5 at home to Coventry in the infamous delayed tie (third round tie played on 6 March).

Thought Greeny ran them ragged at the back when he was on the pitch and put in a great shift. Rhead's early goal took the pressure off and for the majority of the first half hour we dominated. It was a real team performance, Vickers made some saves but over the 90 minutes Andrade was the standout. Akinde at last showed what we know he is capable of, certainly against a tiring defence, but the goal will greatly improve his confidence. It was good to see him back in the zone.
