Match Thread: Lincoln City v Carlisle United

Towards the end of Hope & Glory, Rob Makepeace mentioned some doubt on social media over whether Rhead has 50 or 49.

I see City are using the hashtag #Rheady50 on twitter.

#Rheady49, I'm afraid.
Tweeted Mark Whiley about this as he mentioned it too, big debate in the press box. Told him watch the video of Chester away to clear it up.

Decent performance today.

Before any one gets giddy, its still possible to get a crap 3rd round draw.

That said it would be a nice bit of history to be Spurs' 1st opposition at the New Whitehart Lane. If all goes well for them, their last fixture at Wembley is scheduled to be Wolves on Dec. 29. A home draw for Spurs in the FA Cup should be the opening fixture at their new ground.

We can all dream.

First half we were appalling, improved dramatically with the first substitutions and played a bit of football. That said, 2 good goals and some great goal keeping. Throw ins (throws in?) remain a crime scene however. Bruno pushed Vickers close for M ofM.

here's the moment. Can't find official highlights anywhere but no doubt the club have them

Those probably are the 'official' highlights, if unedited. The VNL & BT unless it was a BT live or featured match back then (and possible still do) relied on the clubs sending in their own footage and edited them down into 2 min 'sound bites' for their respective websites and the BT highlights show.

I thought first 20 minutes we were terrific.

I thought we battered them for 25 minutes, Rheady ran the game in that period. Once they got into it 1st half we looked very tentative at times defending. 2nd half they again came out the blocks and took the game to us. Josh earned his keep in those two periods and was outstanding. I felt they were running out of gas though in the last 20 and had more or less shot their bolt and Akinde and Mccarton coming on was exactly the right move giving us fresh legs to use the space and carry the ball

Delighted for Akinde, terrific strikers finish. Andrade excellent and so was Eardley who had the young looking winger in his pocket for the whole game.

Agree I thought we could and should have killed the game off after 10 minutes.

Thought Vickers made some decent stops but all fairly routine. There were certainly more rewarding recipients for MOM. I felt we attacked on the whole with real purposes today and had vast amount off opportunities.

Great to reach the 3rd round again and the more money we can make from the cups again the club can continue to grow.

Started well then seemed to lose our way at times. Their keeper had a blinder. Akinde was immense when he came on, he is the best striker we’ve had for years, end of. Andrade MoM for me, superb crosses that we’re different class

Consummate professional performance from everyone. Vickers deserved man of the match but I never felt like we were going to lose. No need for a Rhead/Akinde debate tonight, let's just agree they're both great! Bruno put the goals on a plate though, what a player he is.

Don't understand anyone saying let's get the weakest possible draw and keep the run going. Smacks of arrogance, thinking we can beat them before the draw's even made. Let's have one of the big boys at Sincil Bank and then focus on the league.

Ipswich, Brighton and Burnley attest to the possibilities of the draw......

Come on you Imps!!!!!!!! !!!! !! ©

Good to be able to have Akinde, McCartan, Wharton and O'Connor on the bench.

When we've got a clean bill of health, we've got some great options.

This is from a poster on the Carlisle forum... not usually the most amenable when discussing the Imps

"Can't say I'm a huge fan of the way their manager and players behave but I would say how incredibly friendly and helpful all the people and stewards I encountered today.
Also when was the last time a home team sang their hearts out for the entire 90 minutes? It was impressive to bear witness to."

Bit worried about Vickers. He threw that last ball out rather than kick it and then hurried off the pitch at the final whistle looking quite upset. Anyone hear anything? I haven’t heard any interviews yet.
