Winter Transfer Window Thread

Mancienne would do as experienced cover until the end of the season. Got to say, TJ has played consistently well since Christmas. A totally different player, who's now beginning to learn the right back position. Yep, if spurs don't want him, he would make a good signing. Also regarding Palmer. WBA have 6 keepers registered with them. How far up the pecking order is he? If we go up, can we afford to make him permanent? He's 24, 25 in the summer, if he doesnt break into the WBA squad for next season, surely he will need to think about moving on.

This has got to be one of the quietist transfer windows we've had? Complete opposite to last January!

Yes but the engine we have now just needs fine tuning to peak performance for this standard of racing not a complete rebuild from a formula 3 to a formula 2 like last season.

I can't say I would be disappointed if no one else were to come in before end of January. We have enough as it is, but it would only take one major injury (long term to Grant or Johnson) for example and then we would look a bit thin.

Thats exactly why we need some extra bodies in. Take two or three sudden key injuries, which is eminently possible, and without suitable back up we could be down to the kids.

Having Morton back will feel like a new signing too.

Signing Eyoma and Palmer permanently would be a huge coup for the club.

Nobody is questioning whether Mancienne is a short-term replacement for Montsma who is subject to a bid from higher up the pyramid.

Of course that is possible, Montsma really hasn’t had much game time in the league though, no matter how well he has done in such a short spell of time. It would be some turnaround from the Dutch second division to being poached from us so soon, especially with him under a long contract. If that were so you would imagine it’s an offer too good to turn down.

I expect he will be here for this season at least, if not then we move on and wish him well, use the money elsewhere.

You have spelled cost incorrectly.
Yes, but isn't that going to be our business model? Originally it was sign cheap, improve and sell on, and hope we could get promoted. But, if we go up it'll have to be sign expensive, improve and sell even more expensive. If we go up, we'll need the quality of players like Palmer and TJ to have a cat in hell's chance of staying up. If we did sign them and stayed up, then great - we'd be able to afford them. And, if we had to sell them after a year or two - well, they're not going to go down in value under MApp.

It's basically the Peterborough model - buy expensive (Toney, Clarke-Harris), sell on even more expensive.

The model is to find players others haven't identified as good value and improve their value.

With loanees from Premier League clubs - A PL club have already identified them and will only sell them for their market value.

Eyoma for instance has a 3year contract with Spurs and is excelling in his first real loan at the team at the top of EFL1. That indicates he is a valuable player with a high price tag. We would have to pay his proper value.

We are after the Lewis Montsma type, where others haven't recognised his potential value, so can buy him cheaply and if we are correct develop them and make a good profit in time.

It's all about buying low with a realistic prospect of selling much higher. You can afford a few failures at that rate.

i wonder if we are more likely follow the model we started last january - similar to edun and scully - top level academy educated, but coming to the end of their contract. there are always going to be quite a few players in that situation. the trick is to be able to do a deal on transfer fee/release fee/sell on fee and also on the young player's salary. as we are higher in the table this season we can probably choose from even better options.

Billy Gilmour could seek a last-minute loan move away from Chelsea this month after Thomas Tuchel’s arrival...

What a huge statement of intent that would be here if we could lure him here! Absolutely no chance, of course.

Gilmour would more than likely flourish in lesser Prem teams, he does well when playing for the Chelsea first team as it is!

Would be excellent but we'll have to wait until next season as he's going to the Championship. Brentford sniffing which makes geographical sense
