What right have we got to stop them?

Just in case any of you thought grooming by gangs of Muslim men was a thing of the past...

Sentenced today and for once the sentences reflect the crime

Twelve men have been sentenced to up to 20 years each after being found guilty of sexually exploiting a vulnerable girl in West Yorkshire when she was in her early teens.

The men, who include three sets of brothers, were mostly young, low-level criminals living in Keighley. But one was a taxi driver 46 years older than the girl, who had sex with her in his cab when he picked her up as a fare, and another a paedophile with a long history of sexual offending, whose nephew was in her class at school.

Ranging in age from 19 to 63, the men abused the girl at different places around the former mill town near Bradford. She was raped on the library steps, in an underground car park at an abandoned police station and in the rugby club changing rooms at Burgess Fields park. One afternoon in 2012 five of them lined up to rape her in daylight on Dalton Lane, near the town centre.

Many of the men behaved so badly in the dock that the judge admonished them regularly throughout the trial at Bradford crown court.

Passing sentence on Monday, Mr Justice Thomas, QC, told them: “The attitudes that the majority of you have so clearly demonstrated to these proceedings have been contemptuous, disrespectful and arrogant on a scale that I have hardly seen before in many years of practice in criminal law. Exactly the same as your attitude to the 13- to 14-year-old girl who you all sexually abused and exploited for your own selfish gratification.”

Some of the men treated the case as a joke from start to finish. They grinned in the police mugshots taken after their arrests, messed around in the dock, and laughed and waved as they were sent to prison to begin their sentences.

They lied about knowing the girl, despite a number having sent her explicit Facebook messages demanding oral sex. The court heard how Asian men would shout at the white girl in the street, calling her “Randi”, the Urdu word for “slag”.

One defendant, 25-year-old Yasser Kabir, told the girl in front of her grandmother that she could “suck me off”. Kabir was jailed for 20 years for the rape of that girl, and the rape of two others, one aged between six and seven, and the other seven to nine, when he was 13 to 15.

After being arrested, one defendant, Sufyan Ziarab, 23, who was one of four men to rape the girl in the underground car park, told detectives the girl was “a prostitute you don’t have to pay for”.

The main complainant in the case is now 18 but was 13 when the sexual abuse began. Unhappy at home, she went off the rails when she reached Year 8 at school. She started to play truant and was reported missing 71 times before being taken into care in June 2012, aged 14. She had a poor relationship with her mother, claiming she would call her a “**** shagger”.

She said that much of the abuse she suffered was instigated by a teenage boy called Arif Chowdhury, a drug dealer. She was 12 or 13 when they met and he was two years older. She began doing drug runs for him and said he raped her when she told him she wanted to stop. He was present during many of the rapes, bringing her along to the gang rape in Dalton Lane, telling five of his friends: “She’s all yours.”

Chowdhury was not in court, having skipped bail and fled the country shortly after his arrest. The judge said he was “now beyond the jurisdiction of the court, living somewhere in the Asian subcontinent”. His friends, facing long prison sentences, complained to reporters outside court during the trial that he was “the bad one” and had run away to Bangladesh, leaving them to face the music.

The girl was well-known to police and social services. Teachers, noting bruises and her deterioration in behaviour and attendance, had often expressed their fears for her wellbeing, despite not knowing exactly what was going on. They later told detectives that the girl could not see the peril she was putting herself in.

One police officer specifically warned her about the dangers of hanging around with older men. She saw some of her abusers as friends or even lovers, refusing to press charges against one particular older man, whom she insisted was her boyfriend.

The judge said of the girl and her abusers: “She clearly demanded pity and understanding but their view of her was heartless and demeaning. They saw her as a pathetic figure who had no worth and who served no other purpose than to be an object that they could sexually misuse and cast aside.”

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the girl said the rapes had left her paranoid and suffering from clinical depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Resentful that the abuse led to her being taken into care a long way from Keighley, she said she had no friends and saw herself as “a possession or inconvenience to everyone around me”.

“My impression of what a normal relationship would entail is mixed up and warped.” Her life had been ruined, she said: “I always thought I would grow up and do my exams and go into nursing. This has become more of a fairytale than the reality for me, which hurts.”

The men were sentenced as follows:

The underground carpark defendants

1. Sufyan “Sufi” Ziarab, 23, from Keighley, was found guilty of two counts of rape at trial last year and sentenced to 15 years in jail. He has convictions for possession and intent to supply cannabis. His barrister said he had an “extremely low” IQ, lower than 98% of the population and “did not fully understand the consequences of his actions”. His limited intelligence was given as an excuse for him not giving evidence.

2. His brother Bilal “Brownie” Ziarab, 21, from Bradford, was also found guilty of two counts of rape, committed when he was 16. He was sentenced to 12 years. The victim said he was her most reluctant rapist, and may have been pressured into it. He has a previous conviction for sexual activity with a child after he received oral sex outside St Andrew’s Church in Keighley from a girl he knew was 14, when he was 16. He was given a rehabilitation order for that offence in 2010. His barrister said he was “effectively feral” and had been taking drugs since a young age, having left school at 14.

3. Tauqeer “Toki” Hussain, 23, from Keighley, was found guilty of two counts of rape with regard to the main victim and one count of rape in relation to a second underage victim. He was given a total sentence of 18 years. He raped both girls in the underground carpark. He has no previous convictions and was one of the few defendants to have had a job.

4. Yasser Kabir, 25, is Hussain’s half brother. He was found guilty of three counts of raping the main victim during last year’s trial. The jury was not told that he had been convicted last summer of 12 rapes and sexual offences against the two young girls when he was 13 to 15. He wrote to the judge after being convicted, expressing regret for what he had done to the main victim, but not the two young girls. He was given a total sentence of 20 years.

The Dalton Lane gang rape

5. Nasir “Khani” Khan, 24, from Keighley, was found guilty of one count of oral rape and given a 13-year sentence. He has 11 previous convictions for 21 offences, including two for indecent exposure. He also served a prison term for drug offences and assault. He laughed in the dock as his previous convictions were outlined. His barrister said he grew up without a father figure.

6. His brother Faisal Khan, 27, was found guilty of one count of rape and given a 13-year sentence. He received a four-year jail sentence in 2007 for robbery and in 2010 was convicted on drugs charges. In 2012 he was convicted for public disorder.

7. Saqib Younis, 29, is the Khans’ cousin. He was found guilty of one count of rape and also got 13 years’ jail. He has previous convictions for possession of firearms and public disorder.

8. Hussain Sardar, 19, from Keighley, was 14 when he took part in the Dalton Lane rape. He has been in trouble with the law for six years. In 2009 and 2010 he received referral orders for assault and handling stolen goods. He was convicted of one count of rape and sentenced to six years’ detention in a young offenders institution. Further charges for intent to supply class A drugs were ordered to lie on file.

9. Zain “Droopy” Ali, 20, from Keighley, was 16 or 17 when he raped the girl. He has previous convictions for shoplifting and public disorder. On Friday he pleaded not guilty to a further charge of witness intimidation, relating to a witness in the recent multi-rape trial. He was sentenced to eight years’ detention in a young offenders institution.

10. Israr “Sari” Ali, 19, from Keighley, raped the main victim in the changing rooms at the rugby club in Burgess Fields. He has a learning disability and an IQ of 50. His victim told police she thought he was her friend. He was given three and a half years in a young offender institution on account of his age and the fact he had not taken part in a gang rape.

The taxi driver

Mohammed Akram, 63, was found guilty of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16. The court heard his wife had died a few years before he had sex with the main victim in his cab when she was 14. His defence was that he thought she was over the age of consent. The judge sentenced him to five years in prison.

The sexual predator

Khalid Mahmood, 34, pleaded guilty on the day the trial was due to start to five counts of raping the main victim in the woods at Cliffe Castle Park in Keighley and various other public places. She was 13 or 14 at the time and he was around 30. He knew her age because she was in the same class as his nephew and he had seen her in her school uniform.

He would ply the girl with alcohol, cigarettes and marajuana before abusing her, the court heard on Friday. By the time the trial started last year, Mahmood was already serving an eight-year sentence for the rape of a 43-year-old woman in Cliffe Castle Park, as well as the attempted false imprisonment of a child he had tried to snatch off the street.

The father of three has a long history of sexual offending, having been first convicted of indecent assault in 1998, when he was 16, and spending time in a young offender institute the following year for a similar crime. He also has convictions for kerb crawling. Ruling him to be “dangerous” within the meaning of the Criminal Justice Act 2003, the judge gave Mahmood an extended sentence comprising a custodial term of 13 and a half years and an extended licence period of three and a half years and ordered to serve two-thirds of the custodial term in custody.

OVER 80% OF RAPES IN UK COMMITTED BY WHITE PEOPLE

From the Office of National Statistics:

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/214970/sexual-offending-overview-jan-2013.pdf

n 2011, 5,476 (92.0 per cent) of offenders sentenced for sexual offences were of a
known ethnicity (see Table 4.18). Of these persons:

80.9 per cent were White;

7.6 per cent were Black;

8.7 per cent were Asian;

The remaining 2.9 per cent were of ‘other’ ethnicity.

You might think "well duh!" because over 80% of the population are also white - the question I ask is: where are all these 80% of rapes being reported?

The fact is that relatively speaking, white rape is not reported, and ethnic minority rape is vastly over reported.

Are people aware this is happening? For those that don't bother to stop and think for a second, this bias quite obviously casts a negative misrepresentation of ethnic minorities.

It's great when the police catch a rapist - of any ethnicity - but let's not use bias rape reporting to stigmatize ethnic minorities like so many of our right wing newspapers, and readership do.

Around 88% of the UK are 'white'. Taken at face value when around 5% are from an Asian background they're over-represented; this over-presentation becomes more stark if you split them by original country of origin

So I think whilst you're making a perfectly valid argument I think you've missed the point; the issue here is the frequency of these organised gangs and their cultural/religious background; somehow or another we have to find a way to deal with this type of culture - and I'm not entirely sure we ever will; in all of this debate about Asian-led abuse most politicians can't seem to come up with answers - Labour for a long time whilst in power hid it, even denied it - until of course they faced up to it internally and then admitted they shouldn't have, and this tory government also seems at a loss on how to prevent it.

i think are two issues Ex - the higher amount of rapes per person in ethnic minorities, and the under reporting of white rapes in comparison.

The papers are putting an awful lot of focus on the 5% of rapes that occur nationwide. It confounds the issue and question of why do people commit rape? Shifting the focus entirely to the Asian population waters down any debate as to why rape happens in the bigger picture.

the sooner we start representing rape in the media as it should be, the sooner we can start answering the bigger questions such as why are 80% of rapes are down to a group that seemingly has nothing to do with (supposedly) Islam.

You're side stepping the point here (and I can see why) - the entire focus isn't being put on Asian people (by the media or anyone else as far as the evidence we know is concerned) - the focus is of course on why organised Asian rape gangs do what they do (it's a repetitive phenomenon not seen on this scale anywhere else in our community) : and that's what they are and that the issue here, nothing more, nothing less.

Rape (by anyone) is a hideous crime - and I have now idea why anyone would do it, other than driven by base immoral instincts and low esteem for themselves and their victims.

Another piece of evidence of the scale of it came out 5 years after it was first identified in the west midlands:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11699179/Report-about-Asian-grooming-gangs-was-supressed-to-avoid-inflaming-racial-tension.html

and how one MP was 'threatened' not to go public with the extent of it:

http://www.itv.com/news/2016-02-08/mp-who-warned-of-sex-abuse-gang-says-he-was-abused-and-threatened-for-making-claims/

yes you are right - the focus IS on Asian groups grooming teenagers - however this is still not even 3% of rapes in the UK - yet it's essentially the only types of rape that gets reported in national newspapers. that is the problem. is that because white rape is not interesting? unless they are Jimmy Saville?

Sorry Spurfect, you're being selective again - the issue here is the preponderance of organised groups of Asian men praying on young white women, and these are not 'single' rape instances, theses are multiple rapes and abuse of young girls they've groomed, then pass around over a long period of time.

Hiding away from issues like this, pretending that they're like any other isn't the reality - of course we know that they're are white male perverts, but these acts by Asian men are set aside because of their nature and because how their community see it and have ignored it...and even in some cases protect those who do it, the Head Imam of the largest Mosque in Birmingham blamed the girls, not his community and the way they culturally think this is acceptable., in the last few weeks we've had members of their families protesting outside the courts that the girls involved are 'slags/prostitutes' and that the men aren't at fault!

As you can see from this thread, the instances of these organised gangs doing what they do is wide-spread and persistent, that is what sets it apart.

I posted the same/similar data earlier on this thread, you are using them to protect Muslim men from very deserved approbation:

The fact is as you stated nearly 9% of UK rapes are committed by 1% of the population (SE Asian UK pop: 3.1% but that includes Indians , women and children). 1% is generous, you could just as easily say 9% of UK rapes are done by 1/2% of the pop (i.e. MUslim men)

That is a huge percentage so stop saying 80% are done by white men, we know and that's awful. But it is nowhere near the Muslim count on rapes committed per head of Muslim capita, that is shocking

The fact is the patriarchal misogynistic opinion of many Muslim men (see Taharrush or look it up) is that any non Muslim woman is a slut and fair game - "what my right hand can hold is mine". The massive number of sexual assaults in Germany, what about them? DO you want to brush them under a carpet too?

Denmark does break down its crime stats into different ethnic / religious groups and guess what?

Sexual crimes (Assaults, rape) went up by 1476% last year - 1476%!!! .......And 70% were done by 2% of the population - Muslim men. Tell me that's not significant
.
There is a huge cultural problem with Islam and how it gives men carte blanche to abuse women. There are cases of women being groped hourly right across Northern Europe. Continuous harassment

As the Germans have found out with all the refugee's coming to their town, the men just think they can take what they want. Hence thousands of reports of sexual harassment on New years eve.

Certain countries do think this is acceptable. Very naïve to think otherwise.

There are some VERY good points made in the last paragraph.....

Barbara Kay: When Mark Steyn struck back

Barbara Kay | April 5, 2016 2:18 PM ET
More from Barbara Kay | @BarbaraRKay
Mark Steyn
CRAIG GLOVER/The London Free PressMark Steyn

I was one of the lucky attendees last Friday at the Munk Debate in Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall. The motion before the house concerned refugee policy: “Be it resolved: Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” On the pro side: Louise Arbour, former UN Human Rights commissioner and historian Simon Schama; on the con side journalist Mark Steyn and Britain’s UKIP party leader Nigel Farage.

The Munk tradition is to poll the audience before and after the debate. On this occasion, the audience was, as one might expect with a Toronto audience, heavily salted with elite liberal culturati, and the first poll was 77 per cent for the motion, 23 per cent con. After the debate, the pro vote was 55 per cent and the con 45 per cent, a huge shift in opinion, and therefore a handy win for the cons.

I’m not going to recap the whole debate, as you can watch it online. Summarizing Arbour and Schama: imagine all the kumbaya bromides Justin Trudeau would nod and smile to, and that’s the gist of what they said. I prefer to elaborate on what I consider to have been the tipping point favouring the con side, because it illuminated an important attitudinal gap between progressives and conservatives with regard to our culture.

In his opening statement, Steyn reviewed the present tumultuous situation in Europe. He made it clear that the majority of people streaming into and across the continent are not traditional refugees at all, but male economic migrants, mostly not from war-torn Syria. He, and later Farage, painted a grim picture of the impact that culturally sanctioned aggression is having on communities exposed to critical numbers of migrants, particularly on women and young girls — Steyn cited actual disturbing cases — who are bearing the brunt of the radiating anarchic dynamic inherent in the circumstances.

Mark Steyn: The barbarians are already inside. There’s nowhere to get away from them

To some audience members (not to me, but for example to my furiously tweeting companion, a young colleague who happens to bear the same last name as me), Steyn dwelt excessively on the sexual crimes we’ve all read about in Cologne, Hamburg, Malmö and elsewhere. So it apparently seemed to Arbour and Schama, because they mocked Steyn for it in their rebuttals. Arbour sneered at both Steyn and Farage as “newborn feminists” (she got a laugh), while Schama disgraced himself with “I’m just struck by how obsessed with sex these two guys are, actually. It’s a bit sad, really.” (That got a very big laugh.) I took one look at Steyn’s glowering face after that remark — Schama will regret having said it to his dying day, I know it — and I kind of felt sorry for those two liberals, because I knew what was coming.

Steyn slowly rose and riposted, in a tone of withering contempt, “I wasn’t going to do funny stuff. I was going to be deadly serious. (But) I’m slightly amazed at Simon’s ability to get big laughs on gang rape.” Vigorous applause. He went on, “Mme Arbour scoffs at the ‘newfound feminists.’ I’m not much of a feminist, but I draw the line at a three year old … and a seven year old getting raped.” Vigorous applause.

I think that was the moment those of the audience who did change their minds got it. The pro side was happy to talk about “your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,” because they’re abstract images, which liberals like. The words were fresh and meaningful then, but today merely a nostalgic homage to a 19th century immigration adventure with no deep similarities to today’s situation. They’re feel-good words but that shouldn’t make the poet who wrote them in 1883 the author of global refugee legislation in 2016. When Arbour and Schama didn’t like the opposition’s message — no images, just descriptions they interpreted as racist — they chose to shoot the messenger with ridicule, a debating error and an intellectually dishonest strategy.

A civilized culture, which takes centuries of painstaking collaborative work to create, can be easily destroyed, and quickly. This is a reality conservatives understand, but liberals, consumed by guilt for past collective sins, and morally disarmed before the Other, choose to ignore. The Munk debate illuminated this important distinction, and for a change, realism won.

How can a civilised culture be destroyed quickly ? The moral code, right and wrong, politeness and manners. Cleanliness, kindness, freedom, choice , care of the less fortunate. How do you destroy that. It's ingrained into us, we strive to improve and maintain our culture. What's going to destroy it ?

inward looking attitudes and divisiveness destroys cultures too though. it's not all religion. problem being each inflames the other. which will give in first? hint: it won't be religion. creating a world that truly has no need for religion is how we will progress as human beings.

Good luck with that; around 27 countries in the World still have or have brought in Blasphemy laws where they are used to prosecute anyone who claims to be an atheist and further 13 still actually put people to death (All Muslim countries) for the same 'offence' - Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

In India religiously motivated murders against atheists are simply turned a blind eye to...

Sadly, we recently had a murder of a Muslim by another Muslim for publicly declaring tolerance and gratitude to his wonderful Christian hosts and country.

When a culture is as oppressive as most of these countries are, then any hope of them foregoing the barbaric (to Western eyes) practices that they conduct is at best forlorn and at worse foolish - they've been embedding and exporting this culture around the World for many years now - and sadly we're only belatedly waking up to the dangers of leaving it unaddressed.

Complacency, liberalism and a refusal to maintain your cultural superiority whilst tolerating the promotion of intolerance :-)

Drove past a tourism advert hoarding on the road near Dudley today.

Seek out the turquoise ....come to Turkey !!

A lovely blue sea with swimmers the image.

Err no thanks, it's not safe. They can't even guard the airport FFS.

Bit of a low blow don't you think? Imagine a Turkish person making jokes of terrorists blew up a British airport. You'd be incensed and racing on here like a madman. Double standards I think.

How dare they invite tourism into such a volatile environment. Greed over humanity, disgusting.

Where is my joke ? I was drawing attention to their disregard for the safety of tourists.

Once again you sieze an opportunity to defend the indefensible. Speaking of low, how far can you go ?

How many innocent people have died recently in the name of Islam ?
