I'm not sure I agree with that. There are many articles in the newspaper archive telling of benefit matches for Imps players, usually after being on the club's books for 5 years. I suspect they happened more frequently when the maximum wage existed. This was reported in Dec 1936 for a match to be played the following year-There is a technical distinction between a testimonial (awarded after 10 years service) and a benefit match (usually awarded following serious injury).
Me too. I seem to remember the final score was 5-4 to City. The all stars keeper,Alan Hodgkinson, took Citys penalty to score the winner !I was at the John Harrison benefit game v All Star XI 1970.
I was just couldn't remember opposition ..I was at the John Harrison benefit game v All Star XI 1970.
Lee Chapman probably the closest.I think I'm right in saying Lincoln has never produced an England international - there's a challenge for Mr Skubala.
Mick Harford and John Fashanu?I think I'm right in saying Lincoln has never produced an England international - there's a challenge for Mr Skubala.
Not aware they were born in Lincoln.Mick Harford and John Fashanu?
England B - someone else got an England B cap but I can't remember who it was. It was discussed at the time - 'another one that got away'.Lee Chapman probably the closest.
The discussion is of the city of Lincoln rather than Lincoln City.Mick Harford and John Fashanu?
