Might be the wrong thread for this but the opposition leader in Russia was taken ill yesterday and is seriously ill with with the suspicion of poisoning being the reason.

His family want him flown to Germany for specialist treatment , but Russian doctors say he is to ill to travel.

Hmmm.

I suspect the Russian doctors are under orders from the Kremlin to keep Alexei Navalny until all traces of the poison finally clears his body.

They can shoot down planes, poison anti-Russian activists and journalists around the world.

Send KGB military intelligence officers to our own backyard in Sailsbury posing as tourists in an attempt to poison and assassinate Sergi and Yulia Skirpal.

Attempt to interfere and influence elections around the world with fake political propaganda via social media and then have the audacity to insult peoples intelligence by denying everything with a shrug of the shoulders and say - Nothing to do with us Guv........Or words to that effect!

They do make good Vodka though;)

I dont remember it ever being any different all through the cold war.

Russian doctors treating Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, who fell into a coma after being taken ill on a plane, have changed their minds and agreed to let him be flown to Germany.

The doctors, in the Siberian city of Omsk, had earlier insisted he was too ill to be moved.

His supporters suspect he was poisoned, and accuse the authorities of trying to cover up a crime.

A medically equipped plane is waiting to take him to Germany for treatment.

In the last 10 years or so one leader of the opposition in Russia was assassinated by a henchmen of Putins henchmen, one has been arrested and now one poisoned. This despite Putin being almost omnipotently powerful and even changing the constitution there to enable him to stay in power longer. Thankfully any politicians we have here that would love to emulate what Putin has done in turning Russia into a virtual fascist dictatorship are too incompetent to succeed.

German statement confirms trace of poison.

The Berlin hospital treating the seriously ill Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, says he appears to have been poisoned. The Charite hospital released a statement saying "clinical evidence suggests an intoxication through a substance belonging to the group of cholinesterase inhibitors".

The Kremlin obviously have an alibi written by a 7 year old for the reason the opposition of the dictator being poisoned. It’ll be laughable but what are the Germans going to do? Put sanctions on the country that supplies its energy? No.

I used to work for a Russian company, came back to my desk once and my Russian boss was sat in my seat - my little “don’t worry your used to being on other people’s land” gag didn’t go down well after Crimea. No wonder I was made redundant not long after, but moral victory for the English

Germany relies on a lot of Russian gas to power her nation...
Yes, and that should be a really worrying thing for the rest of the EU.
Given Putins antics in recent years and Russia looking expansionist once again, this surely leaves Germany, the most powerful of the EU states in a vulnerable position.

I'm surprised he didn't laugh his head off at the irony of an English person criticising someone else for "being on other people's land".

They have no sense of humour, the Russians.

Russia and also China are to big to take on Militarily. Sanctions have little effect. We can shout and stamp our feet as much as we like but we aint gonna do anything about.

Well, I don't think that is the British way at all.

We could, however, tut (loudly when needed) and potentially raise an eyebrow!

Germany: We expect the Kremlin to make a statement

Russia: Who supplies your gas, Deutschland?
