The Moussa Diaby Thread

Six goals and seven assists to be exact, a very important contribution

He was the one who tore Brighton apart when we beat them 6-1. They couldn't deal with him at all. It basically ended their season. Dunno what happened to him after that.

Overall not poor but not setting the world alight. At 50 odd million though you expect more. Roger’s has come in for a fraction and contributed well recently, although he’s a local lad that probably doesn’t need some settling in time
If his name was Richarlison , he'd be getting pelters. He's not been good since before Xmas.

It's a lack of confidence, lack of understanding of his role or something similar. He's obviously got the quality and will come good, but we may need to tweak his role, get him wider or whatever Unai thinks will get the best out of him.

We are stuck in this formation for this season, but with the summer recruitment we may see a different Aston Villa next season. Unai has more than one string to his bow.

Richarlison scored one goal and assisted three last season though, Diaby's output is more than three times that in first season in English football.

Diaby is quality and has had an ok first season - no doubt the premier league is a big change to Germany. Pre season and him staying healthy for the first months of next season is vital for him I feel. Been a great addition to the squad although a tad expensive.

Yes, he has. He has popped up with important goals and assists too.
Beginning of the season we thought we had a worldie, he was on fire. He's just kind of fizzled out though and doesn't look the dangerous player he was. He'll settle, he'll come good I have no doubt, but his contributions, however important haven't masked his own disappointment/frustration nor the overall impression that he hasn't quite lived up to our extraordinary expectations after the first 10 games.

This season just needs to be over for him (no footballing gods do not injure him) and he needs a full pre-season to up his confidence and for Unai to figure out how best to move forward. This summer will see the next iteration of this team, likely one that doesn't leak goals but still manages to keep the scoring frequency high.

For me the focus of the summer will be on defensive recruits.

Remarks about how good he was first 10 games and he'll come good again. Just like Bailey when he had @6 game wordly spree. Until opposition tactics nullified them. Nothing to say these tactics won't continue.

Moved down to a 6 out of 10 for the season from 7 for me.

He has got right on my tits along with Bailey last few games.

I know it's not their overall game, I know they are wingers but sorry there is no excuse for the ease they get knocked off the ball or dip out of tackles.

I mean how many times a game does Bailey roll around with a season ending injury only to get up and be perfectly fine . All caused by a challenge or two. Twice last night alone.

GET A GRIP.

No overall issue with Diaby into next season where he has shown enough to be assured next season he will settle more. Because despite the dip since Xmas he has still chipped in with goals and assists which gets forgotten.

I’m a big fan of him to be honest and despite not being in the best form his contribution has been important this season.

But I certainly was disappointed with his performance last night, can’t deny that.

I think that's fair enough, I'm definitely willing to give him next season to improve.

He just needs to be more consistent, it's like whenever he has a good game, he doesn't follow it up, his form has been patchy most of the season. Feels like a very expensive squad player at the moment.

Me too but I have grown more and more concerned as the season has wore on. The numbers are there but some of the performances are dreadful. Its got to the point you'd be better off starting Mad Dog because every substitution seems to drag Diaby down further.

The big change in Leon is what we need to get Diaby to. Leon was a confidence player but now it doesn't seem to matter. Diaby is absolutely a confidence player now so we just need him to develop Leons bulletproof mentality that he has now.

I think we both said play and extra midfielder instead of one of those two lightweights but what do we know. In saying that Youri will walk back in surely
Well Youri got injured , Bouba , Buendia and JJ before him , and then Rogers did and the Zaniolo did........................

Switching Bailey and Diaby was working pretty well. Starting both of them has been terrible.
It's been crazy to watch Diaby hit the ground running and being everything we wanted Leon to be. To Leon embracing the super sub role and Diaby dropping off almost as a quickly as Leon started peaking.

What I feel has been missed is the evolution of our tactical approach. We started with Diaby being a focal point of our attack to switch back to that box midfield where the goal was making Leon the focal point. McGinn or Tielemens would drag the opposition LCB or LB into the middle which allowed us to get Leon one vs. one with whoever was left back there to deal with him.

Unai has a difficult summer trying to figure out the backline and also making sure our attack isn't stale and easy to defend against. We also can't really have our record signing continue to be a substitute, long term he'll want to try and get him into the team as a starter.
