The Fitness/Nutrition Thread

Spoke to a bloke yesterday who had an aortic tear a few years ago , 10 hours surgery and he "died" for 4 and a half minutes. He did the 10k yesterday in under an hour.

No more needs to be said really.

Is it serious? Or do you just need to rest it for a few days?

I feel for you. I hate not being able to get out.
I had my cartilage done about 6 years ago. The specialist said there wasn't any left and that I had grade 4 arthritis and would need a new knee in 10 years if I managed it properly. Gave up the marathons and not had a moments bother until about 2 weeks ago when I started feeling pain . I've tried running through it until today when it was just too painful and tender. I think it's the arthritis as yesterday I wasn't feeling anything. Probably need it looking at again.

Get it sorted over the winter, if you can. Get ready for spring!!!

Cold showers!.

Just started having them after every time i exercise.

Revelation!
I’ve spoken about them on here before, they’re very good for you on the morning in general. You will get a lasting bump in dopamine which can set you up for the day.

They are pretty hard to do in the winter though.

Especially at this particular rather chilly moment!. But I’m carrying on. Just had one now after a run. Invigorating!

Did a 10 mile race over Walsall way this morning. Must have been nearly an inch of snow by the time it started and was touch and go whether it went ahead. All things considering I was very happy to do it in 1.32 and even happier that I wore a short sleeved top and gloves.

Shock horror.

As for jogging and cycling in joggers? It's an absolute no from me. I haven't owned a pair of joggers since shell suits were fashionable.

I have to agree. If your exercising, shorts! Do people really feel cold after 10 minutes of good exercise?

Or are we talking about 'walking around the estate' exercise?

It’s not the 10 minutes after exercise, it’s the 10 minutes before. The body works much better when it’s warm. Personally I couldn’t wear ‘joggers’, just don’t work with exercise. I always find it strange the number of people in the gym in hoodies and joggers, I’m always in shorts in the gym but occasionally start in a long sleeve top until I’m warmed up, it’s an old skool gym so no heating or a/c.

Hoodies in a gym should be illegal.

I go for the hoodie and joggers look to be honest for the most part until it's the summer and there's a heat wave, it's really not that hard to understand. Your choice of clothing is really going to have a minimal impact unless you are exercising at either extreme of temperature (i.e. freezing or very hot).

So if your smashing the shit out of the gym you wear joggers and a sweater?
What are you classing as a workout? And how intense?
There is absolute no way you can exercise to exhaustion or to your v02 max or to push your boundaries in joggers and a sweater/hoody. No chance.
