Stadium LN?

Council seem determined with the western corridor and to make a new ground part of it. Clearly see this is as a key way of developing the city.

Issue over new ground is funding. If the Council are prepared to build a new stadium that generates the club more income and just sign it over then we’ve hit the jackpot. Can’t see the non football fan tax payer being too happy if they do that mind!

With LCFC having a training ground any new stadium will just be a place to play football not a home and competing with other entities for use of the stadium. That is how I currently see it. Who will get the match day catering revenue for example.

Agreed.

The architect renders are purely a product of the Council. Makepeace has obviously been in touch with the club, and they have clearly said: "Notin' to do with us guv".

On refelection, I have changed my mind and its no accident that the City coat of arms appears on the renders and not the club's badge.

This is bordering on emotional blackmail from the Council, as @Gaz_Imp says lets see how deep their pockets are when it comes to financing the new stadium and signing it over to club.

Is that the intention of the council, finance it themselves and hope LCFC move in?
Hull City Council paid for the KC. Something like £43m on the ground and £43k on the car park. The only caveat is that they did raise £200m from the one off sale of a good part of KC Comms. which they owned. They blew much of the rest on renovating flats and council houses many of which were pulled down not long after! Oh and on the subject of feasibility studies they paid six figures on a report whether to sell the remaining shares which were valued about £15 at the time. They were advised sell, sell, sell. They ignored the advice. I can't be bothered to check what the share price dipped to after that but recall it was counted in pence rather than pounds.

Sorry to get all political because, as we know, football has nothing to do with politics.
if it wasn't so serious and sad (the sheer waste) it was laughable seeing a socialist council thrust into the world of dealing with capitalist amount of funds and ideology. It was a bit like Steve Evans getting his money for the sweet shop all over again. Another one they signed off on was 100k to re furbish some school toilets when they already knew said school was going to be fully demolished in 8 months time. A school that had been built brand new only a decade earlier. I have to say I don't like the idea of a council or privately owned Imps stadium. A partnership where we own a very significant percentage of the freehold I could just about sit uncomfortably with.

Lincolnshire county council like others up and down the land are not afraid of property speculation. I do believe that west Lindsey own a hotel near Doncaster!

I know that Bristol City council are the biggest landlord in the city.

There’s lots going on behind the curtains!

Also it can go wrong like when the Icelandic banks went tits up and all those councils lost money.

I am ok with Lincs council doing that and buying us a grind as long as it stays in public ownership and isn’t sold off to undesirables - look at Coventry City!

George Ferguson was an inspirational character (for an architect), I saw him speak at an AECB event Bristol a few years back.

Far be it from to cut a Tory run Council some slack, it's Lincoln City Council, not Lincs Council who have got this wrong

That'd be a concern if the Council get too involved. They'll want something back, and I don't want to be an Oxford.

That's incredibly naive.

In a former work life I worked at a relatively senior level in a couple of Council's and I can assure you it does not matter what particular hue of the political spectrum the Council is led by, very little changes. For the record the worst I worked for (operationally not politically) was the Lib Dems and the best was a hung Council, but even then there very little was different between the two.

Don't be fooled a lot of people become Councillors out of self interest, not for the greater good, for example the shop owner who wants to prevent yellow lines being painted outside their shop or the taxi company owner who wants to protect the taxi rank being from moved, the list rolls on forever.

The upshot is a lot of these people are put in charge of complex portfolios they just don't understand and don't have the technical bandwith to understand (understandably because it is not their profession) however explained to them. I'd be a millionaire if I been given a £1 every time a councillor has gone against an officers recommendation simply because they have misunderstood or don't understand. This is why often or not you get what appears to be strange outcomes, and as I said at the outset 90% of the time its got little to with the political persuasion of the Council.

Ready in 2026 IF we agree to it, still lots of talks ongoing about both options, redeveloping or moving.

Don't worry, I am neither naïve or fooled on this subject having had many encounters in my working life with councillors and politicians at various levels. I hold most of them in contempt (there are some admirable exceptions) from across the political spectrum. Self serving is their usual starting point or often where they end up even if they entered politics with good intentions. Needless to say Hull had more than it's fair share of champagne socialists. Historically Lincoln Council has acted in a benign and positive manner so far as LCFC go (especially the ground purchase and return on favourable terms) and for that I am grateful. Many other local councils do not appreciate their clubs and have acted negatively towards them. However such is the nature of politics and ineptitude at handling resources I would be very nervous if they were too heavily tied into what City try to do with the ground. I'm sure our board will be treading carefully and hopefully the working partnership which will be necessary to proceed is a productive one.
