Scally to sell up?

I would hate to follow a club that becomes some rich bastards play thing bankrolling the club with dirty money ie Newcastle. Although no doubt many of their supporters dont care as long as it brings success.
Only last night on the news was a headline about how appalled the LGBT community is about the world cup being played in that hell hole of a place with their outdated beliefs & laws. I agree and wont watch any of it and IMO clubs should have told them to stuff their world cup but football sold its soul to money along time ago.
So fuck the PL and all their plastic supporters, as I have no wish to join that lot and sit in a souless stadium with plastics trying to convince you that they have always followed the Gills whilst proper fans would struggle to get a ticket.
Would love the club to progress but not to that level, however without any investment we cannot even compete at league 2 level never mind leage one as a previous poster said. UTG

Gills need a new ground.
Priestfield has had its day.
When it was built, most fans walked to the ground.
Now, with few exceptions, people drive.
Cars need parking.
Build it and they will come

Yesterday's news shotshy, that ship has sailed. The sort of retail and commercial development tied to those sorts of stadia has already been done. tSeveral housand people trying to leave one venue at the same time is a disaster. The parking area would be massive and expensive. and many would park off suite to avoid it.

Out of town developments contribute less than old town centres however run down. The out of town stuff requires endless subsidy.

“Bezos, Zuckerberg, Musk takeover collapses at last hurdle”

Reputedly the “biggest deal ever” in professional soccer worth “gazillions” to buy an unnamed, unfancied, unrivaled (literally), English football club foundered yesterday. A spokesman for the three commented, “it’s a tragedy really. We’d done all the work. The money was lined up. The boys had all flown in. We were ready to sign. Then we went on one of the supporters’ sites. My God! They’re all mental.” A more complete statement from the group is expected later today. The identity of the club remains unclear, but sources suggest….

The rumoured buyer lost out on nomination as a Republican candidate, not sure for what office. He blamed the loss on his failure to fill in a questionnaire on gun control. He's an NRA member and owns a handgun and a rifle. Be careful what you say about US gun laws chaps!

If it’s built at Mill Hill then there would be the need for a new train station as well.
Some fans never drive to a game, for them social drinking before/after is as much part of the day as the football match itself.

Perhaps, we could rename it Richard Hill in honour of past staff members?

Enjoying the fact that the takeover has quickly become so certain that we are arguing about whether to build a new ground or develop a completely new Gills inspired town plan!
It's nice to spend a couple of days not talking about our impotent strike force as well.
Bradley Dack cums up again…

It’s exciting about a potential rich benefactor coming in to the fold, if there is any substance behind the rumours.

A big part of me, however, feels a bit sick about GFC becoming part of the endemic problem in football finances. I always liked that we lived within our means; and despised clubs (like Derby) who spend, spend, spend. Those teams are cheats. I always liked that we competed fairly.
And where has that got us?

I’ve just listened to a bit of Neil Harris’ latest press conference, namely the question regarding the rumoured takeover. I can’t find it on the internet but did I hear correctly the BBC Radio Kent reporter specifically say “…it’s been confirmed by the club”?!

Tell me I really heard that.

Pfft... coming in to the fold… ha ha!

I offer you Plymouth Argyle FC

I quite like Rotherham’s new ground if we’re looking for comparisons. Right in the town centre too, in fact closer to the town centre than the old one.

You mean you dont have to walk through the scrap yard anymore ???? Promise me the cooling towers are still next to the M1.

The massive scrap yard and the old ground (which is surprisingly still in good nick) are both still there, the ground is opposite but on the town centre side of the river.

I don’t want to disappoint you about the cooling towers…

To be fair you can invest and compete fairly. Derby was a good example of the madness of modern football. But you can invest in infrastructure, do deals on tickets and increase the playing budget without putting it all on the roulette table and letting it ride every season that doesn't work until you eventually bust out.

I was thinking of doing nautical puns but thought why not casino this time! On that note are the potential new owners buying a ship or a football club? Either way lets not be leaky.
