Recommend a player - Summer 2020

Pool blog putting some suggestions forward for us:

After signing Keshi Anderson from Swindon and having seen Blackpool linked with various other League Two players, we wanted to do a little appreciation post for the top players from League Two who could potentially fit into Blackpool’s plans this summer.
Our criteria for this search was based on a maximum age of 25, with at least 10 goals or assists required.
Bez Lubala – Forward – Crawley Town
Bez or Beryly is a Congolese forward, raised in Leicester. He started his career with Birmingham but after a handful of appearances, was released and signed for Crawley Town in 2019. Bez has already managed to rack up an impressive 12 goals and 3 assists during his 34 appearances. He’s a dead ball specialist (see his goal against Mansfield) and at the age of 22 is full of potential.

Ryan Broom – Midfield – Cheltenham

A graduate of the Bristol Rovers Youth Set-up, Ryan completed a few loan spells in the lower leagues before joining Cheltenham in May 2018 on a one-year deal. His stats of 8 goals and 6 assists may make him a worthy squad player and at 23 he could kick-on and improve further if given the chance.

Charlie Kirk – Winger – Crewe

Charlie was part of Crewe’s recent promotion winning campaign, which may make it harder to prize him away, though we managed to do it with Keshi Anderson from Swindon. Coming up through the prestigious Crewe Academy, he has now started to consistently perform. The 7 goals and 14 assists could really take some pressure off the star man Feeney and give us another option for creativity. Again another young lad at 22, showing he can do the business in the Football League and surely ready for the step up to League One.

Randell Williams – Fullback/Winger – Exeter

Randell has some links to current Pool players Sullay Kaikai and Keshi Anderson having played in the Crystal Palace youth team with them in 2016-17. He switched to Watford briefly before ending up at Exeter after a few loan spells. Randell looked impressive in the recent play-off final for League Two, though Exeter were defeated 4-0, and that’s likely to be his last appearance for the Grecians. Williams has been linked with a move to the Championship following a stellar campaign with a return of 5 goals and
14 assists. He would definitely help the Seasiders out, providing an option in the attacking full-back role or further forwards.

Jerry Yates – Forward – (Swindon Loan) Rotherham parent club

Jerry Yates is one rumoured signing that will not go away. Current negotiations seem to hinge on agreeing a fee with Rotherham, who are looking to cash in on an asset in demand after winning promotion to the Championship themselves. Sunderland are also rumoured to be in the running, though it it’s thought that Blackpool are currently front-runners for the 23-year-old. He certainly had an impressive season with Swindon, forming a formidable partnership with former Pool target and ex-Nobber Eoin Doyle, netting 13 goals and providing 1 assist which helped them gain promotion to League One. With Gnanduillet leaving we will have to look to strengthen this area quickly, and hopefully the capture of Keshi will help get this one over the line.

Josh Gordon – Forward – Walsall

Most likely one you have not heard of, the 25-year-old started at his boyhood club Stoke City, before heading to Nantwich Town. After a successful spell with Stafford Rangers, Josh was signed by Leicester City, though his spell was brief and having failed to break in the first team he moved to Walsall in 2018. In the most recent season he put away 9 goals and assisted 1. Known as a hardworking striker, under the right coaching he could surely flourish.

Callum O'Hare

Attacking midfielder who's been released by Aston Villa. 22 years old.

Suspect he'll sign permanently for Coventry, where he's been on loan (especially as he's a Solihull lad).

He fits the bill for what Critchley will be looking for though: technically good.
As I suspected, signed for Coventry.

Liam Bridcutt

Here's our Jay Spearing replacement.

31 years old and just been released by Forest having been on loan at Bolton and Lincoln this season. 1 year deal with a 1 year option should work well for us.

He's had a few issues with injuries and his career has had real peaks and troughs, but he's a perfect fit for the deep lying central midfielder role.

He's a leader in the dressing room, technically good and by all accounts a good character.

When he was at Brighton and played in the holding midfielder role he thrived: gave the centre halves an out ball, played it safe, launched attacks, covered gaps whenever any of the defenders bombed forward, and indeed let them bomb forward by holding his position really well. Won player of the season twice there. Was also captain at Leeds.

Despite only being 5 foot 9 inches he puts himself about and is strong in the tackle.

Would bring experience in the centre of the park.

As retained/released lists have started to be announced, I thought I'd start our annual thread where we all recommend players who may be available and a good fit for BFC (no doubt Bob will recommend Charlie yet again).

From the majority of lists I've seen so far, several clubs seem to have the bulk of their squad already under contract for next season so it'll be interesting to see if the market is as deep as people expect.

The only player who's caught my eye thus far (and I've recommended him previously) is Jordan Rossiter.

He's been released by Rangers after spending this season on loan with the Cods.

He was playing very well for Fleetwood until he did his ACL. He's expecting to be fit for August, so he may find (Fleetwood aside) a quiet market particularly given his past injuries.

On that front, he's had real problems with muscular injuries in his legs. However, that appears to be down to a missed diagnosis relating to his back and since that's been sorted he's put a string of games together (ACL aside).

He reads the game well, rarely gives the ball away, likes a tackle and can get forward. When fit he's very much of our required standard. In many ways he could be a natural successor to Spearing.

He's still only 23 so has time to fulfil his undoubted potential, and he's settled in the North West where he stayed to do his rehab (rather than head back to Rangers).

He knows several of our boys being a Scouser (including the gaffer) so would fit in to the dressing room, and he's got a good head on his shoulders. He speaks very highly of Alex Inglethorpe at Liverpool, who in turn is friendly with Critchley.

As per my thoughts in the retained/released list thread, I think we need three central midfielders as it stands and Rossiter ticks a lot of boxes in terms of what we're trying to do. Plus it'd be great to wind up the Cods.
Signed permanently for Fleetwood.

Callum Camps

Released by Rochdale in what is a real shocker - they must be in a mess financially.

Central midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball and thrived in their passing game this season, so would fit us in that regard you'd imagine.

6 goals and 7 assists in 28 league games this season. 6 yellows as well though - tackling is not a forte.

He's a Manchester lad, so already local and he's only 24 so fits the age bracket we appear to be targeting.

Despite his age he has over 200 league games under his belt, with the overwhelming majority of them having been played at this level.
Signed for Fleetwood as we know.

Bailey Wright

27 year old Australian centre half released by Bristol City after a loan at Sunderland. He was club captain at Bristol C but fell down the pecking order due to injuries.

When fit he's a standout player at this level and easily capable of playing in the Championship.

Sunderland have been heavily linked with him, but I believe we may have made enquiries too...
Signed permanently for Sunderland

Ethan Hamilton

21 year old Scottish youth international released by Man Utd.

Has spent three loan spells in this division: Rochdale, Southend and the murderers.

Captained United's U18s and was nominated for their youth player of the year previously.

Fits what Critchley wants to do perfectly: good engine on him and works hard. All round midfielder with an eye for goal.
Signed for Peterborough.

Fair play to these lads who tipped up Lubala back in July.
