As retained/released lists have started to be announced, I thought I'd start our annual thread where we all recommend players who may be available and a good fit for BFC (no doubt Bob will recommend Charlie yet again).
From the majority of lists I've seen so far, several clubs seem to have the bulk of their squad already under contract for next season so it'll be interesting to see if the market is as deep as people expect.
The only player who's caught my eye thus far (and I've recommended him previously) is Jordan Rossiter.
He's been released by Rangers after spending this season on loan with the Cods.
He was playing very well for Fleetwood until he did his ACL. He's expecting to be fit for August, so he may find (Fleetwood aside) a quiet market particularly given his past injuries.
On that front, he's had real problems with muscular injuries in his legs. However, that appears to be down to a missed diagnosis relating to his back and since that's been sorted he's put a string of games together (ACL aside).
He reads the game well, rarely gives the ball away, likes a tackle and can get forward. When fit he's very much of our required standard. In many ways he could be a natural successor to Spearing.
He's still only 23 so has time to fulfil his undoubted potential, and he's settled in the North West where he stayed to do his rehab (rather than head back to Rangers).
He knows several of our boys being a Scouser (including the gaffer) so would fit in to the dressing room, and he's got a good head on his shoulders. He speaks very highly of Alex Inglethorpe at Liverpool, who in turn is friendly with Critchley.
As per my thoughts in the retained/released list thread, I think we need three central midfielders as it stands and Rossiter ticks a lot of boxes in terms of what we're trying to do. Plus it'd be great to wind up the Cods.
