I’m not an expert
I remember we spoke about south Asian racism during the BLM marches which I argued and many agreed, the worst racism I’ve seen between Hindus and Muslims Pakistanis. Many factors in there I guess politically and geographically which I wouldn’t understand.
I also didn’t realise until not that long ago the amount of racism between Indian Indians (who are about 9 in 10 people from our IT department) and the British Asians who make up probably 30-40% of our Finance department. I’m good friends with a lot of British Asians, they share our sense of humour and are happy to socialise with white Brits (generally). But I do think there is a long way to go on this front and I don’t agree with every way they sometimes act. It can get awkward when you have a mixture of Indians and Pakistanis in a team, who literally won’t talk to each other.
I also used to date a British Asian years ago at uni, her sister was dating a black guy and she wasn’t far off being disowned by the older family. You wouldn’t even joke about that as a white person, but that still happens.
It’s probably a time thing, but it feels very behind where Britain is on the racism curve when you get down into the different cultures.
