People Trafficking

Is that really true, because it doesn't seem true based on the BBC website story on the 2 Vietnamese that are suspected to have been amongst the dead? They travelled through Europe, and then got into a shipping container for travel to the UK - they must have known this was illegal?

I haven`t seen the story/report you refer to 3x6. Yes, the clandestine boarding of a refrigerated trailer would likely have seemed a shady thing to be doing. But the misleading element I alluded to is the combination of lies and deceit ranging from how "safe" it would be for them to make the journey to the promise, particularly in the case of trafficked humans, of freedom to work, earn money and be independent.
In relation to traffickers in the UK - there are lots and it`s embedded in international Organised Crime.

I would not be surprised if the Triads who operate throughout Western Europe or a Mafia type gang are at the heart of the trafficking to the UK and they are probably untouchable, the ones who get caught here and jailed will not cause those at the top any sleepless nights.
Time does not allow for more than a small percentage of trucks and containers to be inspected in our ports however many we have in the police or border force, otherwise the long line of trucks waiting to board on the Continent and containers waiting for shipment to the UK would be logistically impossible to operate.

Organised Crime knows no boundaries so your assertion that Chinese criminals are involved must be credible.
Your point about "however many police/border force we have" misses the point that if sufficient resource was available to (Law Enforcement) intelligence related activity there would be a targeted regime. Such a regime is resource effective at the front end because it would be less of a needle in a haystack situation.

The main man in the UK is an Albanian. It is no wonder that the EU is very reluctant to welcome Albania as members given the number of their citizens involved in a range of criminal activities.
Albania is 10 years away from EU membership - yes the country has applied but that is all.

My reading of the situation as an average citizen is that there are simply not enough people to enforce the law. Boris talks of recruiting thousands of police officers but it's probably election talk and no more. We have organised crime that deals in drugs and people trafficking among other crimes. The chiefs don't do the leg work or dirty work but rely on people that have been left behind by society - kids and adults on the edge, people who have committed petty crime and know of no other way, people who have been abandoned and have lived in institutions all their lives. Far more police on the streets will help; more police to hit the gang leaders will help and more specialists will help too but also we have to put back what so many youngsters are missing to-day; the police can't do it on their own. Cut backs in the fifth largest global economy have seen playing fields closed; social care at a bare minimum and little or nothing to do after school or work. It's a mess.......
The Met have actively started their recruitment of a target of 6k extra officers over the next 5 years (source is a mate who works in recruitment) so it's a bit more than election talk. The main problem is finding space for them due to the closure of so many police buildings. HMBF are also recruiting for staff to start "immediately". I only know this as I've been in touch regarding working for them part time when I retire from The Met.

My contact has to workout of a dilapidated station in Brent in order to police in Westminster. Ludicrous. Well done Johnson, who presided over this shambles as Mayor and in Cabinet.

Where are the extra officers going to put the extra suspects? Where are the extra forensics officers coming from? The much needed psychiactric support and care provision required? and so on......

People are falling for this election gimmick.

Ps, he couldn't spare the time (again) to appear before a HofC Committee but did manage another electioneering hospital visit this week. Pr#ck.

Entering the UK in a clandestine fashion , with no Visa or permission.
Legally entering the UK involves producing a passport at a recognised entry point.
I hope this explains the difference to you..
How does that account for refugees and asylum seekers?

Maybe Jeremy "refugees welcome" Corbyn has a plan how this can be funded?

To be fair, they've been in short supply since before I joined over 20 years ago, long before BJ or Tory cuts

Britain's prime minister has signed a condolence book honoring the 39 people who died in a refrigerated truck container in southeastern England last week. Boris Johnson wrote in the book Monday at the Thurrock Council office that "the whole nation, and indeed the world, has been shocked by this tragedy." He says the victims were "innocent people who were hoping for a better life in this country." ABC News

He won't be getting VG's vote then

Fair enough but I get the impression from my ex-copper mates and present contact that it's getting considerably worse, especially the closing down of so many stations leading to shortage of cells and less efficient policing (further to travel so slower response times).

Just watched Preeti Patel make a statement on this subject in Parliament. The Minister to her right showed no interest at all and was typing on his tablet and reading documents handed to him. You'd think he could show a bit of respect during the few minutes she spoke on the subject.

I thought the same about David Lammy and Diane Abbot when they both fell asleep during the Brexit talks last week. ?
