Other Clubs News Discussion Thread 2

I'm wondering the same thing. I have it in my head that he is set to leave Citeh at the end of season. Is that right?
They chase the money mate, end of.
They would say it's a short career so they have to grab it while it's on offer.
Given the fact that the vast majority, and Jack comes across as an example, would struggle to support themselves outside of football, they probably have a case.
On an average life span they have forty years ahead of them when they finish playing, they want the same lifestyle, so they will grab what they can.

TBH when players and managers go to china for the money they show their real character, just in it for the money and Benitez has done that. He's pretty washed up and to think some Villa fans would have welcomed him here.

I think he was purchased more for commercial reasons. He’s the second coming of Beckham but even less well spoken (said in jest of course). The problem is I don’t know how you can be a cultural icon without playing and without being somewhat important.

Beckham was somewhat important and he was effective. I don’t know if YKW is any of those things for City. And whatever about United but they were never soulless. City are the commercialization of football. City have even legitimized Chelsea.

Not even PSG have accelerated the destruction of football in the way City have. What’s crazy is this has all happened with a manager at the helm who would tell you he is a romantic. Yet he has turned beauty into machinery. His passion is a passion of efficiency and work ethic. Yet it is the German, Klopp who seems the romantic and spirit of the game. The irony, it’s Klopp who will give the opposition at least the perception of a chance. From the outset when you play Peps team there seems like no hope.

I feel like Liverpool play with true passion and Klopp offers the spirit of competition. Pep seems like he’d strip the game of all emotion and pull apart anything other than his interpretation of what football is. He’d have had Marv sent off for that tackle on Aguero at Wembley. And what a travesty because I think 95% of us here grew up with a game where Marv would be applauded for that level of commitment and desire to win.
Very eloquently put sir

Everton rumoured to be close to sacking Benitez and wanting to bring in Mourinho from Roma, it's only speculation, but if the Everton board are even considering that as much as 1% then they've lost their minds!

I'm not sure that's right. I've heard their DOF is about to get the bullet.

Benitez, Mourinho etc have had their best days and are no longer hungry or ahead of the game enough.
Agree Wicked
It's the changing of the guard with regard to football managers.
The old school have had their day. They know the game inside out, but can't seem to relate to the modern footballers.
You are not going to rant and rave at these guys, those days are gone.
The players hold all the cards and the new breed of managers need to be psychologists as well as a footie manager.

Yes, someone on here said that even their fans look bored watching the inevitable win.
I can understand that, because it's supposed to be a contest, but all too often it's a procession.
We old guys need to wise up. £ootball is the reality. Find Man City somewhat perfunctory to watch on the box, but live, they have several excellent players and,at times, the football is top class. Even Jack looks like a rough diamond compared to the likes of De Brune (sp?),Silva and Foden. Maybe we are bored because the level playing field is gone. The money clubs,Man City, Man U,Chelsea and Liverpool may suffer temporary blips but they are able to buy the best. Add Newcastle and top four becomes even more difficult. As a club,we are well placed to join the gravy train with switched on owners,at last, excellent stadium, soon to increase to 50,000 plus and a fan base the envy of our midlands rivals, atm Leicester and Wolves. Journey will be difficult but,at least,we now have a fighting chance to grow and join the big boys.

It is the reality for the top clubs JP, and yes we aspire to it. FFP has made it harder for those not up there yet.
And of course, the other thing is that for all their money and squad they still can't win the Champions league.
It's the one thing they desperately want, that they are trying to buy, but still it eludes them.
And long may it be that way, as a reminder to them you can't buy everything.

Pep's contract is to 2023. BUT, he has it in his head that he wants to manage a national team, and going 2022 after the world cup would make sense for that. There's also the question whether MC would be happy with the club effectively marking time until he goes. My guess is that MC are lining up a successor and he'll go in 2022.

They have top players. Any top manager would have no problem. Whether Greasy would be seen as a top player is another matter.

Jack maybe trying too hard. Mazy 40 yard dribbles not in Peps coaching manual.

Amazing scenes at the end of the game at Elland Road with the Leeds DOF going absolutely barmy about something in the stands.

NBC are saying the rule is that “the keeper is in control of the ball even if it is held one hand against any surface”. However the rule also says this is the law unless the keep has just made a save or the ball has rebounded.

The issue is the ref was not shown the whole replay.

we’ve been fucking robbed.

*didn’t mean to post this here
