Good post. There are lots of people who have rubbed their hands at the Covid crisis to politicise it and make political gain. I can't believe how many people are desperate to blow smoke up the arse of other countries at how they've managed it better than "us" as it's their way of knocking the government (mainly as they have a political gripe over Brexit or other issues). I do not in any way claim that the government's handling of the Covid Crisis has been ideal, but we are one of many countries struggling and we'll need to fully investigate at the end what went right or wrong, but when thing that I urge no one to forget at the end (and this is increasingly being forgotten) that the biggest investigation and fall out at the end of this points towards China, not Boris, Trump, the UK, Italy, Spain or the US. I envisage, overall, China, after causing this, may well have done very well out of this.
Whilst I agree that some of the rules re Covid are inconsistent, a lot of blame has to go to the stupidity of individuals, who just don't seem to be able to act sensibly. A point in case, is the 10pm kicking out time. Maybe this is a bad idea from the government, but why does anyone need to be out at 10pm drinking and the congregating in the streets at that time during a pandemic? I heard Andy Burnham on the radio the other day saying that it was madness from the government to introduce this law as it meant people got kicked out of bars at 10pm and then all had to congregate in off licences and each others homes to continue the drinking. I am as big a pisshead as the next, but have felt no need to do this. I usually drink at home (now in groups of under 6) with friends and family and if I do go out it's for a meal or drink that is done well before this 10pm kick out and any continued drinking (and, yes, I've done it a few times during lockdown is with small groups at home). People need to man up and grow up.
As for a return to watching matches, we're all desperate for that, but I think it's pathetic to make out that it's a Tory v Labour thing. I'd say most MPs "back" but don't support their local teams - it was good to see the recent letter backing a return to matches, which both my current MP and the Gillingham MP signed (both Tories).
Up the Gills!
