So much of it is about the "wavelength" between the players. When you get a great group of talented players with amazing football brains, magic can happen. I remember about 3 or 4 years ago, we played a couple of games without Sissoko and all of a sudden you could see the jigsaw work again. We had put one player of a lower football intelligence / ability in amongst Kane, Dembele, Eriksen, Dele etc and we suddenly went up through the gears again.
If great football sides like City teach you anything, it's about finding intelligent players and letting them find that wavelength. It is way more important than having players in the "right" position.
What frustrates me about Spurs is that we have a load of intelligent footballers like Kane, Ndombele, Dele, Bale, Gio, Winks, Hojbjerg etc but we have a manager who has no interest in putting something together with them. He won't play a system that suits them and he'll continue throw in players like Moura and Sissoko because they run around a lot.
It is why Jose is a complete dinosaur.
