Match Thread: Milton Keynes v Lincoln City

By cutting edge you mean only one of our 26 shots went in? That happens unfortunately.. i find it pretty hard to critice that imps performance though

Few clear cut chances unlike the Southend game. We were pretty unfortunate with the run of the green in the final third. Certainly a lot of positives to take.

No, I used to have a lot of time for Big John and thought he would come good. He hasnt though and we have changed the system where he should be doing OK.....it ain't working, I wish it was!

You thought he would come good? What do you mean by that ?He is an established professional .Good performance from the entire team tonight .No need to worry and certainly no need to find a 'scape goat' , it seems to be the same player every time . Why?

That was frustrating, one of those nights where for all the possession and skill, never really got a clean contact to finish, apart from Walker's superb strike. Lost to an offside goal too.

Rather a loss like this than coming away having deserved to lose, I too was thinking of the match at Tranmere last season. Learn and move on, the breaks went against us tonight but there will be other occasions when fortune favours us.

Some funny results in L1 tonight – Coventry drawing 3-3 at Pompey with nine men (were 3-1 down when reduced to 10 and 3-2 behind when reduced to nine), Burton winning 4-2 at Oxford, Shrewsbury scoring three in last 15 mins to win 3-2 at Accrington, Gillingham throwing away a 2-0 lead at home to Blackpool and obviously us somehow losing at MK despite completely dominating.
Lot of goals in L2/3 - happens a lot in midweek games, bit more unpredictable

Just seen an early report from the game, and the last line says this:
'...but the hosts did just enough to take all three points'.

Maybe should have read:
'...but they somehow clung on to three points despite City completely dominating'.

Tranmere managed to get two sent off as well!

Unfortunate. Really unlucky.
First goal was poor and we weren't switched on.
Walker's finish was sublime.
Grant controlled the game.
O'Connor kept us in it in the first half with some fantastic defending.
Payne evidently heard us criticise his finishing because kept trying to go for the perfect finish (did look like he could do it though).
Has Big John forgotten he's a striker? He could be a 20 goal a season striker at this level but seemed to be afraid of shooting. Could have had 2 tonight but passed instead of shooting.
Shackell seemed the wrong choice at CB tonight. Him and Bostwick didn't seem comfortable with each other which led to a couple of messes at the back early on.
Toffolo looks a class above at this level.
Something didn't look right about their 2nd, whether offside or foul something was amiss but there will have been people who were in better places to tell than iFollow camera. Hopefully 2 of them were the ref and linesman.
Ref was average. He'll do badly in ratings because we lost but he didn't really have a lot to do and I don't think he changed the match with an obvious error.
Good to see Vickers seems to have recovered from his injury problems.
Would have liked to have seen Akinde on for Morrell and Andrade on for Anderson with Akinde playing alongside Walker. Think that would have caused havoc against a battered MK Dons. (Sure DC had his reasons for not doing this though).

They'll be midtable this season.
May need a new keeper as Nicholls was shocking. Only really tested him once from memory, and that went in. Everything else down his throat.
Will be much worse if they rely on Boateng to defend. Was not interested at all unless he could start running at us.

First experience of watching new look Lincoln. Still think we'll be just outside the play offs in the end but it should be a very enjoyable watch.

Let's not be too disappointed, we played really well tonight. Even though we lost, after that performance, it showed it was no fluke that we were top. If we carry on giving that amount of every effort every game, we will be up there come the end of the season.

Can't help but feeling robbed tonight. They had two chances and scored them. Second goal was either hand ball or offside?!?

Think you are right there, slight overplaying at times. Shacks didn't really go up there until the very end either and nearly got the goal straight away

Indeed we needed Cowley 2016 vintage in that game.

That said this was a repeat of the Tranmere game last year

The football was very good again, just can’t see how they can keep that up over the medium term with essentially a squad of abt 16 and 4 juniors.

Imo, we look just 2 or 3 first team players short, purely for rotation - such a shame there is no investment.

Offside.

We'll play worse and win this season, though decision making seemed to go awol in the last 10 minutes - but MK did pack the box and make it very very difficult, a good away performance by them. Oh, hang on....
