Match Thread: Lincoln City v Bolton Wanderers

Well the game sadly went pretty much at I’d predicted

Lots of Bolton possession with some resolve from our rear guard to keep the hordes at bay

Going forward hasn’t and won’t change with the current situation and if anything we looked to offer less than usual

The sending off pretty much gave them the opportunity to launch ball after ball into our box without any relief- Mandriou for me is a luxury we can do without very much jam tomorrow type of player but hasn’t given us the performances or attitude to believe he’ll ever change into the player to make a difference or earn us some money

Feels a low end to the year and not holding out for anything on Friday against Northampton

Looks like the tough games will keep on coming in the new year so hopefully we’ve some players who can hit the ground running
Not sure I would call them "hordes"- 4 attempts on goal in the entire game from Bolton and only one save I can recall Jensen having to make 2nd half. Bolton may have looked pretty moving the ball around but created very little (mainly because our defensive strength is not in doubt)

Just catching up as been out all day at a family get together. Not seen any part of the game but reading here does look like one of our defensively good offensively not good games with the sending off of Mandroiu being a pivotal moment.
Will be there on Friday night and always attend with hopes of a win.

Remember 7 years ago when we played the likes of Ipswich, Brighton and Burnley. We had a game plan that went beyond defend for your lives and hope for the best. We were 3 or 4 divisions below these teams but never conceded so much possession and ground as we do in virtually every game now. For footballs sake it’s always best if the one team that tries to win any game eventually wins it and let’s face it we haven’t tried to win many games for 2 years, we are happy to stop the opposition winning, full stop.
So much bullsh*t is talked about our supposed model, look at todays team, who the hell would want to buy any of our players for decent money, none of them are capable of playing in the Championship, not one of them would get in Boltons squad. Do people really think Sorensen is worth a lot of money, clubs don’t pay decent money for players who can run a lot but have the technical ability of a cart horse. Erhahon and Hamilton are decent but only average at Lg One level.
Playing such boring negative football as we do will not showcase any good footballer with tactics like this so really the model we try to make out we have is total hogwash. If a £3million annual financial deficit gets us to where we are now we are at the ceiling of our hopes unless the model changes.
The mighty Bristol Rovers beat Bolton 2-1 a fortnight ago and had 14 shots on goal. They won by having a go, they could equally have lost but at least they didn’t go down like whimpish lambs and cry about Bolton having a bigger budget etc.
For the sake I repeating myself again, recruitment has been poor for 4/5 years and surely JG has to take responsibility at some point. Clive amd the board must ask serious questions.

Obviously it's easy to say but I've got feeling like with Kennedy we would squeeze a point out of this one. It was his type of game.

But hey, we are so much more entertaining now with our futsal specialist in charge. I think we even had a shot on target today so happy days...

First half they were better but we worked really hard without the ball and managed to survive.
Then I thought we came well into the second half and I had even a little hope for something. After Madroiu's sent off though it was inevitable what's going to happen with us defending so desperately.

In the end fair result. Bolton deserved to win as they were playing football and tried to score goals unlike us.

A very contradictory post.

Can you expand on that?

Personally I think Jensen, O'Connor, Jackson, Erhahon, House, Reeco, and Hamilton have been good signings.

Sorensen and TJ have come good after an ordinary start.

Jury still out on Walker, Mandroiu, and Duffy.

Brown and Bishop probably mistakes.

I don't think there is enough evidence to lay the blame at JG's door.

I think there's huge frustration as well because this is a fairly poor league this year - 8 of the bottom half are scoring less than a goal a game, which seems a high number to me and probably reflective of the lack of quality.

4 shots on target yeah but 12 shots from inside the box, 9 blocked shots and 21 in total. 14 corners to our.. zero(!?) short of clear cut chances maybe but its a pretty controlled away performance.

If they created very little (xG of 1.28) then probably running out of terms for our 0.07.

I guess the best argument is we seem to go into every January short in a key position but I agree the business was a lot better this year and key positions addressed, partly just unfortunate.

Dress it up however you want Strangely they had 21 shots on our goal, for an away team that is staggering. I would say they created loads of chances from their total dominance, only poor finishing stopped it from being a rout

Yeah agreed, normally I would be extremely happy with 9th so far (although it’ll likely be 13th within a couple of weeks).

The league is very poor this season and we have lost a huge opportunity which we may not get again.

They totally had control of the game and a couple of times had too many players going for the same pass

We kept them out usually at the cost of a corner

Not sure you can summarise the flow of the game in being anything but one way traffic

I really enjoyed watching today's game.

Surely if you don't enjoy a determined, resolute, battling performance from your own team, you must have a lot of miserable times watching football.

...and reading some of the other posts, that appears to be the case.

For someone who's season, if not career was reportedly over after a playing out of position at wingback against Accrington ...Sean Roughan has pretty quickly returned, to still resembled the good defender he has been for a while.

Sickener with Mandroiu red card...I thought it was a yellow. Just a poor forwards challenge but nothing more for me. Surely when you can see the fouled player thumping the ground with his fist, you should be fairly certain he is NOT hurt.

I think Mr Hair had decided his job was to protect what he had decided were the better side. He had been doing much the same all afternoon...just the extra burden we couldn't cope with.

I am not absolving Mandroiu...was not smart but 4 games and 20 minute ban seems excessive....if they bring in sin bins, it would be 10 minutes (which seems nearer the mark).

Disappointing but hardly shocking we haven't picked up anything against Derby and Bolton.

Looking forward to another enjoyable match on Friday with hopefully a better result.

I think everyone can appreciate the effort from the players today. Agreed Roughan had a good game (maybe because his role today was almost 100% focused on defending), but he’s much better centre back than wing back. What is more difficult to understand is the current set up and method to try and score goals… yes I know we have no strikers but we have created very little in recent games (beyond Derby and Bolton). Entertainment has been an absolute premium for most of the season.

I too like a resolute battling performance but shots on targets, added with pulsating attacking forward play would be my Christmas.

I'm amazed that anyone posting on here saw Mandroiu's challenge as anything other than a red. Two feet, studs showing, totally lacking control and what's annoying is it was totally unnecessary.

Overall that was a frustrating afternoon but I think given the quick run of games and continuing lack of forward players (exacerbated by the red today) it's difficult to judge how successful or not Skubala has been to date. Best to judge from Wycombe onwards once he has had chance to affect things on the training ground.

The challenge lacked control, but did he connect? It looked like their player bought it...

As we are ninth in the league I hope I dont get shot down in flames for this but there seems to be an awful lot of nonchalance that we are completely safe from relegation. There is nobody at the bottom who are miles behind everyone else.
I don't for a minute believe that will happen to us but yet again on the evidence of today's performance if the opposition score we will more likely lose. We are totally bereft of anyone who looks likely to score or even test the opposition defence.
I am not blaming the current Manager at the moment because he has nobody fit in the squad to remedy this. Although I would take issue with him for bringing on Adelukan when we were desperate to try and find something instead of Duffy or Shodipo. Adelukan is back to his can't be arsed mode all he did was one of his duff long throws followed by passing the ball twice to the opposition. The second occasion he didn't even chase back. Even if we have to pay him off please get rid.
However despite my pessimism above I fully expect the Board to back the Manager so he can bring some new blood in and possibly get us challenging again for play-offs. But if we don't it is going to be a tough watch.

They had 71% possession and did very little with it to put us to bed- Jensen had one save to make the entire game......possession is meaningless if you don't create clear cut chances...they didn't. Defensively we remained strong. Going forward we have almost zero final third quality.
