LIncoln Late 1980s and Early 1990s

A couple of views looking down Tanners Lane (then and now) and Anchor Street. The next series of photos will be back to Zombie Apocalypse. This area was once the site of Rustons Anchor Street works.

There was a guy who had pics in The Gossiper in the old Lincs Echo ... I forget his name? (was it Peter Brown?) 🤔

I used to love looking at his old b/w photos of Lincoln streets, with classic cars and old shops that are long since gone?

Yes it was Peter Brown. I enjoyed that bit of the Echo as well.

Back to Zombie Apocalypse today. The first pics shows where Rustons Anchor Street works once was. I believe the factory buildings in this area were demolished in the early 1980s, but am happy to defer to someone else's knowledge on this matter. I have seen views of the Anchor Street works from the River Witham, but not from inside the complex itself. Please feel free to post them if you have any. The pics finish with a few of what the site looks like now. Quite a transformation. Good to see good old RGT being mentioned in pic 2.

The Lincolnite had an interesting (honestly!) article in it yesterday, for those of us who enjoy looking at Lincoln then and Now photos. Well worth a look, as is the link to the You Tube videos compiled by the photographer. Spoiler alert for Notty...Trams, buses, etc and other motive power can be seen.

I shall avert my gaze!

Starting to move away from the Firth Road area now. The pictures below show a very sleep and pastoral view of the Ropewalk. Given the lack of traffic the zombie apocalypse must have happened a day or two earlier! The blue roofed building in the background of the first 2 photos is the good old British Rail Social Club. Gate-crashed a party their, once. Belated apologies if it was yours (seemed to remember we did liven it up a bit, though)!

12 6 2021 Edit. A few more photos below to show what this area looks like now.

Or 40 Mars Bars.
I used to be able to get 8 Fruit Salads or 8 Black Jacks for a Penny at Wilcocksons corner shop in North Hykeham in the early 70s. You could almost build a house with £1's worth of them. A can of Strike American coca cola cost 7p in Asda around that time too, so could get 14 cans of them for a £1 and still get enough change for 16 Fruit Salads! Those were the days!

At the top of Green Lane, where we lived.
