Leyton Orient

Yes, apparently it's been allowed by the Southern League and they will be allowed to take their place up again next season (all being well!). One club, Blackfield & Langley, had already voluntarily dropped out the league during the summer so it doesn't mean an odd number of clubs in the division.

This action by the club came before today's lockdown (which was anticipated) as Welsh Government rules meant that unlike other clubs at the same level (eg Grantham) they wouldn't be allowed to have spectators in the ground and the loss of income from playing behind closed doors for an indefinite period couldn't be sustained.

Apart from the player-manager none of the players were under contract so they've been allowed to find other clubs.

Guernsey are in a similar position. The regulations on the Island regarding having to quarantine, and lack of flights to/from Gatwick, make it impossible, and the Isthmian League are supporting a gap year for them (Not sure what will happen to Jersey, who play at a lower level)

North West Counties new boys FC Isle of Man are still trying to keep going, but cancelling matches a couple of weeks in advance. Current announcements may see them cancel this season I'd guess.

Jersey Bulls have announced their ’Home’ fixtures for October will be played either at Ascot Uniteds ground or, in one case , will be played on the grounds of their opponents, Dorking Wanderers Reserves.
They are also playing a few ‘Triple header’ weekends, ie Friday, Saturday and Sunday...Full credit to them for wanting to play.

Back to the original subject, Orient v Spurs is now off.

Surely this also means that games involving Orient and Mansfield this weekend will have to be cancelled to adhere to the self isolating after coming into contact with a positive testee??
Won't be the last time this happens I suspect

I think the football pyramid from possible EFL down will change dramatically over the next couple of seasons . If the 6 months that Johnston talks about happens then a few clubs will go under . And not just non league . Seems Dover are in trouble , may start the season (if it starts at all} but wont finish it , . Time may come to regionalise the lower divisions may be ??

You can see how a few C19-related postponements and the potential knock on effect of other teams self-isolating could quickly pretty much stop some leagues.

But, so far, it would appear Spurs haven't been granted a bye?

This is going to be the death knell for elite sports in this country, we'll have nothing to watch, the government has cocked this right up.
Basically since they let chairman Cummings drive to see barney Imp and go for an eye test.
They just need to tip us off the next time he needs his eyes testing....

should have to Q just like the rest of us
My niece lives in St Andrews and works in Edinburgh. She needed a test. Off to a walk in test centre, done there and then. No booking, no lengthy queueing, speedy results.

Her mum lives in Retford, had to visit a client, followed authority protocol. PPE, raft of questions. Client answers no to all questions about covid. No exposure herself, her sons are adults and haven't visited, live away and have not been exposed to it. Fifteen minutes in to the visit, casually mentions that her daughters in law visited for a cuppa earlier that day. On their way to get tested. After a worker at the care home they work in was diagnosed with it. Swift exit, contacted her employer, self isolate. On line to book a test. Wade through the questions. No symptoms (of course) no need for a test. But self isolate.

Madness...

I reckon that since Barney is strictly to the north of Scotch Corner, we ought to be ceded to Scotland. And immediately impose a six month quarantine on all those named Cummins...

3 West Ham staff, including Moyes, have tested positive. Announced 45 mins before their match tonight.

Surely then the rest of their "bubble" must be deemed potentially infected, the match postponed (forfeited) and appropriate isolation protocols followed?

Football authorities must be consistent on this if they're to build any confidence in their ability to keep the game going during the pandemic.

The Orient Chairman was interviewed at length on Five Live tonight (between circa 7:10 and 7:30). He came across very well and made some interesting points. A couple of note are that he feels if Orient are punished (ie thrown out) then all future requests for tests requested of lower league clubs by Premier League opponents are likely to then be declined by clubs, in case they get any positives and therefore lose what would be vital income.

He also alluded to a different way of testing between the EFL and Premier League. He says all EFL tests are simply either returned as a straight positive or negative. However he says that Prenier League tests are graded and unless a positive returns over a certain level (I think he said 35..... although 35 what I don't know) then they are not considered as positive and ignored.

I found that remarkable, as was Five Live's failure to properly question him further about this.

and to further complicate things, bbc reporting this about the virus test:
"In particular, he's concerned the Covid test is actually so sensitive it's picking up what is effectively dead virus as it spots traces of it months after the person has stopped being infectious."
