The Championship 2020-21 season started late this year on Sept 12.
Since then we’ve played in a hectic scheduling of 20 matches in 14 weeks, with some of our players involved in International matches in between, as well.
Despite this, we’ve come through it favourably, winning 10 of the 20 matches, drawing 6, and losing 4, and sit in third place in the table on 36 points. Whilst the 12 goals conceded in those 20 matches means we have the best defensive record in the Championship, with only 23 goals scored we are falling a bit short in this aspect of our play.
With a recognised goal scorer such as Brewster we could possibly have turned those 6 draws into wins and the 4 defeats into draws.
And so we come to the crux of the matter.
The January Transfer Window is upon us in just over a week.
Will the owners sanction the releasing of funds to get a striker in, or possibly a loan deal?
It’s fairly obvious our present loan striker Gyokeres is not in favour with
Steve Cooper, and if he’s not going to play him what’s the point of him being here.
Brentford splashed the cash after losing their two top scorers of last season and bought Ivan Toney for £5m from Peterborough. He’s scored 16 goals so far this season and is the division’s top scorer.
A recognised striker maybe the missing piece in the jigsaw and with sorely missed midfielder Gibbs-White set to return in January we could make a big push for promotion.
