January Transfer Window

Another one gone, back to Brighton and straight back out again to Coventry. Not enough game time apparently. He came to us late, there’s been two International breaks that he went on and he caught Covid on one of them and was laid low isolating, so a bit unfair to complain about lack of game time. He made a total of 12 appearances, if he had played well it probably would have been more.

Cooper confirmed that he was in contact with Swansea's US owners, but says the impressive form on the field will not have a bearing on his budget this month.
No ambition from the hedge-funders then.

So the new back up goalkeeper is 33 year old Somerset born Ben Hamer of Huddersfield Town, who comes on a free transfer. He had lost his first team place for the last seven games to 21 year old Ryan Schofield.
Hamer’s played for Leicester and Huddersfield in the PL and has been around a bit with various clubs in his career. Terriers fans do not rate him at all if the posts on their forum are anything to go by.

Highly regarded D.C. United midfielder, 25 year old Paul Arriola linked to a loan move to the Swans. He’s recently recovered from an ACL injury and would be a gamble.

In a shock move, George Byers has gone to League One and Kenny Jacketts’ Portsmouth on loan for the rest of the season. Byers has just made a comeback from a long term groin injury.

It’s being reported that we’ve had a bid 700k accepted for 20 year old Derby County winger/forward Morgan Whittaker. With Cullen and Routledge out injured long term we are in need of reinforcements.

Mixed views by Derby fans on Morgan Whittaker -
“whether anyone thinks he’s good or not the one thing that stood out for me was his lack of desire and work rate and remember when we were under the cosh he was far too easy to beat ...good luck to the lad but a long way to go for him and not sure he’ll make it”
“Doesn't have the right mentality to reach the top. Correct decision to sell imo”
“Don't understand the hatred towards Whittaker. He's hardly been given a proper chance. Out of his 25 games for Derby, he's started 2 times and played the equivalent of 5.5 games. 1 goal and 1 assist in that time. Is this really a fair chance? Difficult to continue influencing games when you come on for 5/10 minutes every time you play. Looked decent in his cameo vs Norwich and just unlucky vs Stoke. We could massively regret this because there's certainly a player there, as anyone who's watched the academy has seen”
“It’s not hatred. That’s a strong word. It’s just a number of us don’t believe he has what it takes to become a top class footballer”
“Bit disappointed in this tbh, seemed like he has a lot of potential for growth and could ironically be exactly what we need in terms of attacking threat and goals if he had a run of games and time to build some confidence. Hope I’m wrong but I think we might look back at 700k for him as horrible business”
“The thing is, a lot of young players have been used these past 2 seasons and Whittaker hasnt grabbed his chance the same way the others have. The reason he hasnt had more playing time is because he hasnt shown enough to deserve it, if he had he would have played”

The winter transfer window closes tomorrow night, Monday 1st Feb, at 11pm.
We have had a busy window but one loan transfer slot is still available. Do we have another last minute player incoming besides young Whittaker?
I thought DC United midfielder Paul Arriola was lined up for a loan deal.
It could still happen. He plays for USA v Trinidad & Tobago today, Sunday, in Orlando, Florida.

Last day Swans action in the transfer market:

Forward Morgan Whittaker has signed on a permanent deal from Derby, fee undisclosed.
Midfielder Paul Arriola has signed from DC United on loan until the end of the season.
Right-Back Kieron Freeman has signed from Swindon until the end of the season, fee undisclosed.
