January Transfer Window

The Championship 2020-21 season started late this year on Sept 12.
Since then we’ve played in a hectic scheduling of 20 matches in 14 weeks, with some of our players involved in International matches in between, as well.
Despite this, we’ve come through it favourably, winning 10 of the 20 matches, drawing 6, and losing 4, and sit in third place in the table on 36 points. Whilst the 12 goals conceded in those 20 matches means we have the best defensive record in the Championship, with only 23 goals scored we are falling a bit short in this aspect of our play.
With a recognised goal scorer such as Brewster we could possibly have turned those 6 draws into wins and the 4 defeats into draws.
And so we come to the crux of the matter.
The January Transfer Window is upon us in just over a week.
Will the owners sanction the releasing of funds to get a striker in, or possibly a loan deal?
It’s fairly obvious our present loan striker Gyokeres is not in favour with
Steve Cooper, and if he’s not going to play him what’s the point of him being here.
Brentford splashed the cash after losing their two top scorers of last season and bought Ivan Toney for £5m from Peterborough. He’s scored 16 goals so far this season and is the division’s top scorer.
A recognised striker maybe the missing piece in the jigsaw and with sorely missed midfielder Gibbs-White set to return in January we could make a big push for promotion.

Southampton’s young striker 20 year old Michael Obafemi (4 goals in 29 games) is in need of game time and is a suggested target for the Swans.

Norwegian club FC Bodo/Glimt’s hotshot (28 goals in 26 games) Danish striker Kasper Junker, 26 years old, is said to be one of the strikers being watched by Swansea.

Various Press reports say we have had a bid of £500k rejected for League Two Crawley Town striker Max Watters (13 goals in 14 games).

QPR midfielder Bright Osayi-Samuel being linked to us, Stoke, Rangers & Palace.
Shrewsbury centre-back Aaron Pierre also linked to us.

No way do we get Osayi-SAmuel surely and he doesn't fit our system either. The Shrewsbury defender is another strange one as well. We're also linked with a winger (?) that Cooper worked with at England U17s

Max Watters name being linked again. He didn’t play yesterday, some say injured, some say we’ve had a bid accepted.

Southampton striker 22 year old Michael Obafemi being linked to us in a loan deal.
He’s only made two appearances for the Saints this season and has scored 5 goals in 35 appearances since joining from Leyton Orient in 2016.

An excellent win on Saturday and we move up to second place in the table at the half way point in the season, 23 games gone and 43 points in the bag.
It’s a crucial time because the winter Transfer Window opens 4th January
Will our owners stick or twist and splash some cash, even on a loan player? Will they sell any of our players at the first offer? They have history for this since they took over here, most recently selling our brightest prospect Joe Rodon to Spurs, where they let Spurs dictate the price, and sold for peanuts.
Surprisingly Steve Cooper said yesterday he’s not interested in any players coming in and is happy with the squad, but is (understandably) more worried about players leaving.

So it’s a nail biting time for Swans fans again as the struggling PL clubs open their cheque books and come looking to buy the players that can help them stave off relegation.

Apparently we have made a move for young Arsenal striker 19 year old Folacin Balogun on loan. His contract is up at the end of the season. Liverpool and Brentford are also interested. Brentford had a bid of £5m turned down last January, Arsenal wanted £8m.

Spurs 20 year old winger/striker Jack Clarke is attracting loan interest from several Championship clubs, including the Swans.
He was signed from Leeds in the summer of 2019 for £10m and loaned back to them. He also went on loan to QPR in Jan 2020.

Aston Villa’s 22 year old striker Keenan Davies is attracting loan deal interest from the Swans and other Championship clubs. The player is keen to get more game time but manager Dean Smith is reluctant to let him go. Davies has made four first team appearances from the subs bench this season.

Goodbye Declan John, on loan for the rest of the season to Bolton.
His contract is up in the summer so we won’t see him again.

Former Liverpool youth player, 26 year old Paul Mullin, League 2 Cambridge Utd striker, is another one we’re interested in. Eighteen goals in twenty one league matches this season, he was a free transfer from Tranmere last July.
